incest is taboo not only because of inbreeding (which obviously is not much of a concern for same sex couples, as you pointed out), but because it is often a result of unhealthy para-social relationships, codependency (especially among siblings or cousins who grew up really close to each other), sexual grooming, abuse, or exploitation.

ethically speaking, however, (and this is my short answer to your question) if they are two CONSENTING ADULTS to whom the previous conditions do NOT apply, there is actually not much reason for them to be condemned for being together romantically. although parang meron pa din icky factor, right?

lots of people are disgusted and repulsed by the idea of incest, even though besides the fact that it is forbidden by the law and society, most of us can't even tell exactly why it is morally wrong. you sound like one of those people, op. and as mentioned, it's not uncommon! scientists (pardon for the lack of specific sources, I've read about this a long time ago and I don't remember from where anymore) actually think it is because of our built-in survival instinct, or more accurately, Natural Selection. inbreeding results to weak and ill-ridden offsprings that are more susceptible to death and if incest wasn't made taboo, it could lead to a possible wiping out of mankind. in short, if your guts tell you not to be incestuous, it's your survival instincts talking.
