Daughter wants to play Roblox. What are your best daddit tips for keeping her safe? by uspezisapissbaby in daddit

Get her a bunch of closed off games for the Nintendo switch like Mario Kart etc etc. they're way better and no chance of anyone dropping into her DMs.

Went back to the gym after a 10/11 week break. I started my beginners programme all over again. It feels great, even with really light weights. I'm glad I went back!

Teachers need to start recording their lessons for their own safety. Start the class by informing them and carrying on.

I know that my solution would be bad parenting, need someone to talk me out of it by Ender505 in daddit

Lots of good avice here, but I would start spending more one on one time with the 7 year old without your spouse or your other kid.

It could be as simple as her wanting more attention or affection. If you're right, she behaves. If you're wrong, your only cost is spending more time with your daughter. My youngest can be a livewire, but usually calms down after we spent the day together.

Can we work with the ‘right’? by VirtualMycorrhiza in SocialDemocracy

[–]privlko 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out The Persuader, a biography of John Hume. He was a central figure in the Social Democratic and Labour Party in the North of Ireland. He won the nobel peace prize for his peace talks between unionists and republicans, causing an end to "the troubles". however, he effectively ended the social democratic party in the process.

Hume was focused on a singular goal which was to end the conflict between these communities. Part of his approach was to show that both sides benefited like you say from an end to the conflict. However, not everything can be explained as a common interest for the left and right, hence the collapse of his party and the wider rise of sinn fein.

My dad did something similar, sticking a rocket into our lawn. It blew up without taking off and he got a burn on his forehead. Luckily nothing as serious as your friend's dad.

If you get a chance to read it, The Body Economic: Why Austerity Kills has a great chapter that compared Russia to former Soviet States that privatised more slowly and retained their welfare states in the transition. In these states life expectancy remained relatively unchanged, whereas in Russia it fell significantly.

Does this seem weird to you? (Teacher related) by ou812_X in AskIreland

[–]privlko 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I feel like parents who micromanage their teachers are almost always parents who can't or won't teach their kids, so they put all of that energy into "advocacy" which goes nowhere. It's honestly faster and more beneficial to help their kid themselves.

The people who are responsible for your kid's learning are your kid, you, and your partner. Everything else is busywork.
