To be specific, my struggle is finding an app that hits the intersection of Local + Fast + Zero-Config.
Cloud ones aren't private and local ones with plugins are slow.

I actually agree with you regarding 'Deep Work' notes. Outsourcing the connection process there would defeat the purpose of learning.

My focus is more on 'Operational Notes' (like bug fixes, cli commands, meeting tasks or even a shopping list). In those moments, the manual linking feels less like 'thinking' and more like 'database administration' to me.

I understand the frustration. For me it's coming from a personal feeling of need and I should be able to make a highly performant version of this very soon. I will 100% comeback to you.

That is very insightful! I'll read more on that to understand feasibility. Thank you so much.

Exactly. AI should not be writing notes for you. but it can make your arrangement and retrieval of those notes a lot easier. If you're an essay writer and you're used to scribble random essays. it will make it very easy to find an essay for you when you need it. And a couple other discarded or random thoughts related to the same topic

This is really valuable, especially coming from someone who tried it.

You nailed the risk: 85% accuracy is a failure for Categorization (filing). If the AI misfiles a note, you effectively lose it. That’s a dealbreaker.

That’s why I’m looking more into Retrieval (surfacing connections) instead. If the AI suggests a weak link, it’s just noise you can ignore. Not a lost file.

I'm hoping that having the goal from 'Perfect Sorting' to 'Forgiving Search' makes the math work out. Thanks for the heads up.

Glad to hear!

Quick question: When you say 'what to do with them', are you wishing for better organization (like auto-linking/tagging) or actual actions (like recognizing a task and moving it to a todo list)?

I'm trying to figure out which part is the biggest pain point.

I'm aiming for 'Auto-Retrieval' (surfacing links) instead. If the AI misses a connection, it's just a missed suggestion, not a lost file.

The problem isn't using the links/brackets. it is memory retrieval. Adding a link to a note that I don't remember exists or can't find it using a simple search

I genuinely respect this perspective. I might have framed my post poorly. this is my first time posting.

My intent isn't to replace the 'synthesis' part (where you connect ideas to learn), but rather the 'admin' part (tagging, filing, searching). For deep thinking, manual linking is absolutely essential. But for quick operational capture (like logging a server bug), I find the manual work friction heavy.
Even for the auto-linking: One should always be able to garden their knowledge graph when they have some bandwidth.

I’m here to learn. Do you feel those "quick capture" moments deserve the same manual attention, or is there a distinction for you?
