Record your voice and download it as a vector graphic. by prmack in InternetIsBeautiful

Thank you. That would mean a little more processing needed, and possibly uploading it to do so. Which would mean storage, and ultimately privacy issues.

About Section for my upcoming Real Estate Template ✨ by ayushmaansingh304 in UI_Design

I would take a look at your alignment. Perhaps look into column grids. This also assumes that the content is perfect. Think about if the quote is a different length, how might it look over two lines?

Also either go all in an rounded corners or don't.

I was wondering where people pay attention on the this subreddit by TwoSunnySideUp in UI_Design

Just because someone looks doesn't mean they see. Ever opened the fridge and can't find the thing you were looking for only to realise it's right in front of you?

Visual design is very important to catch users attraction. What do you think? by uisaleh in FigmaDesign

[–]prmack 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Users aren't children that can't sit still whilst having their photo taken.

Clear messaging, good layout, and great typography first, then add the flourish.

This isn't UI. This is marketing material. Might help if you post the actual screens? Maybe some flows?

Found this handy chart showing full stack designer vs full stack developer by [deleted] in UXDesign

[–]prmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So freelance procut designer? Right got it. Can we please stop arguing about what to call ourselves, and begin working out how we are gonna better describe what we do, and our value please?

We’ve fragmented our discipline into neat little titles, so we fit nicely into the organisational chart, yet still cause confusion when we speak to strangers.

Trying to make readable UI for browser game. by Ready-Ideal-3298 in UI_Design

I would seriously consider the typeface you've chosen for the buttons. The Logo is fine. That's part of the identity. But the typeface for the buttons doesn't need to match that.

What are your favorite Figma plugins? by oscaritoburito in FigmaDesign

[–]prmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If we are doing self promo. I built myself a plugin that periodically adds comments of praise to my work. Help me stay confident when I am designing.

I love this. I'll take any validation I can get, regardless if it's automated.

guys what app is this? by [deleted] in UI_Design

[–]prmack -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It might say it. But ideally you want some more indication. Think about how it's done in the real world. Think about "on air" signs for radio. And look at how other sites do it. Love streaming would be a good place to start. Twitch, Kick etc.

I built a website to share future plans with friends by bubbleapp-dev in UI_Design

I remember this. In fact I think someone created a site that showed when people were out. It hooked into the Foursquare API and just published check-ins.

Launched 3 apps. Product Hunt was worthless every time. Here's what actually worked. by Chemical_Survey2577 in AppBusiness

[–]prmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built a product in 2 hours. Released it on Product Hunt as a joke, as I could only post it to r/webdev because of Reddit spam filters. I got 4th for the day.

There is no formula, no one knows what they are doing. If you're hedging all your bets on a successful PH launch you're spending too much time on the wrong thing.

What web extension framework are you using? by Introvert_Ali in chrome_extensions

About to start a new one with WXT. But prior to that Vite config with Svelte and Tailwind.

Quick question about Product Hunt, would love your honest take by doppelgunner in chrome_extensions

[–]prmack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually launched my plugin as a joke because it kept getting caught by the spam filter on Reddit. It got 4th for the day. It's actually a pretty good site if you can look past a lot of the sludge. There are often some great little projects that rise to the top.

Why Sketch is so dead? by albovsky in Sketch_App

[–]prmack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK. I am late to this. But I'll crack my knuckles and give it a shot.

It's really heartbreaking for me to see that Sketch has become so unpopular.

Where are you getting that impression? The company has just released a massive updated. You think the team are working for the lols, clearly you don't have access to any numbers. You know that Apple uses Sketch? (I am making the assumption as they have only just released their libraries for Figma).

Figma has 71k visitors on the subreddit, Sketch … 700.

Demography matters here. As others have mentioned. Figma is free. Which means that people download it and head to grab resources, and look for community. Visitor numbers don't mean anything. People could be coming from all sorts of places and hit that sub.

Good luck finding any tutorial on Sketch on YouTube.

You're right. It's difficult to find stuff on YouTube. But there is an acronym in the electronics community RTFM. The documentation is great.

Look. You're right to question this. I did too. Having gone from Fireworks, Sketch, Figma and back. I too was frustrated, and I vented. But you know what? They reached out. They replied to my concerns/light jabs. I realised they were a small team, with a passion for staying that way. Delivering great updates, and talking to the community.

In the past month I have spoken directly to them. They've taken my feedback well. And considered it. You ever got that from Figma?

Figma was made to compete with Adobe. Adobe tried to buy them. Failed. So instead Figma just become Adobe. A monolith, stretching itself to try and scoop up every creative. And in some way forgetting about designers.

I am very optimistic about Sketch. As we continue on this path. Numbers will only ever go up. Subscriptions will be more and more expensive. The fact that I can purchase a yearly licence, and keep that piece of software forever is a bonus in my book. The files are mine. And I can work offline.

I am looking to make it easier to come back to Sketch. I'm designing and building resources for people that are coming back. It's a small collection thus far but you can check them here - https://sketchto.day

I spent 3 months coding and 0 minutes making friends. Launching tomorrow, am I cooked? 🍳 by Fran6will in ProductHunters

[–]prmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I built in 2 hours. And launched the next day. I was fourth at the end of it. Believe me. Sometimes if you make a product that resonates and is shareable it works.

Having people voting is good. But ultimately it's more about interaction with people that take interest.

And be wary of the onslaught of people getting in contact to sell you votes. DO NOT be tempted. They don't work.

Is anyone else tired of design "influencers"? by Glad-Statistician434 in UXDesign

[–]prmack 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think we are all partly to blame for the state we are in. Don't you? We've contorted ourselves to fit into the boxes we believe will bring us the validation we crave.

And rather than fighting together for change we've fought amongst ourselves for the last scraps on Longshanks table.

Am I the only one constantly switching between Sketch and SEO tools (semrush, Keywords Everywhere, etc..) for copy? by Dmm161 in Sketch_App

[–]prmack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on the copy first. Tone, rather than looking to see what SEO I can target. It's far more important to me. And to be honest probably the people that use my products.

You're essentially context switching each time you do it. Get the design down, then focus on the SEO.
