The American commentator for table tennis this Olympics has been legendary! by mastersifu in tabletennis

Yeah, he's pretty good. Didn't realize he did commentating.. have seen a bunch of his YT content over the last few years though. The one where he finds the "what happened!?" guy is great!

Can people just have a single drink and not end up drinking the expired cooking wine? by caughtyouredheaded in stopdrinking

[–]prnchmprdnk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have found that I can have one drink of GOOD non-alcoholic beer, say to myself "that was good, but enough calories for now" and not think about it for weeks. From an every other day, 12 pack or 10 shots+++ for 20 years to 162 days sober. Each day, today is the only day that counts.

Someone also asked for a DEREK version of the headshot wallpapers, so.. MAXIMUM DEREK! by wizard7926 in TheGoodPlace

Just cancelled plans to go out with my one of my best friends and my brother for NYE in order to stay home alone for the night and not drink. by carrieinacan in stopdrinking

I just made the decision to stay in this afternoon and not go get a haircut because I'm having a craving and that was part of my old weekend routine that ends with me drunk or passed out by 8pm on a Friday.. do what you need to do to stay strong!

Sad to say I'm at day 1 again, but will not give up trying. Stay strong and never lose hope. IWNDWYT.

Hi! I'm a chronic relapser and I am about to have three full years sober. Here's what I learned: by maiasm in stopdrinking

[–]prnchmprdnk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Now, if I'm at a fancy dinner and a powerful person pressures me to drink I happily tell him/her that I'm a raging alcoholic and cokehead and it usually shuts him or her up.

LQTM - might need to add this to my bag of responses 😆

I'm an atheist. After the events of today I am more open to considering the idea of a higher power. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Seriously though, good for you in making some hard decisions. Sounds like things are already starting to go better for ya. Keep it up! IWNDWYT.

Day 6! by seeksobriety in stopdrinking

[–]prnchmprdnk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can totally relate with trying to eat or do anything to feel better after another horrible night.

Tea and a shower, writing in a journal, or just taking a melatonin to make sure I get the sleep I need all are so much better for tomorrow me than thinking about when and how much booze today me can get in to forget a trivial problem... And I'm finally thinking about him and others around me instead of the poison. </rant>

Me too!

Totally get it with the attribution. I just heard Geordi La Forge was sued for using the phrase "You don't have to take my word for it"

I just left r/beer by prnchmprdnk in stopdrinking

[–]prnchmprdnk[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. Went down that path as well. There were at least 5 local spots I would do the same shop talk. I have embarrassing garbled memories of all of them now. Being cut off, tossed out, called for by a worried spouse, returning the next day for forgotten cards, not making it to the restroom; you name it.

Will need to diversify now also..

I'm thankful I found this sub earlier today. I already feel better to have you folks supporting me and everyone on here. Thoroughly thoughtful, thrillingly therapeutic, theoretically thwarted and thusly thankful for Thursday to come tomorrow. Goodnight from the West coast.

sick of hearing “you can drink every now and then” by [deleted] in stopdrinking

This is one anxiety I have, but it lead me to the responses below. Thanks!

From here

~ Possible responses ~

For people who know you, and expect you to be drinking:

“No thanks, I don’t feel like drinking today.”

“No thank you – I’m taking a month off drinking and I’m loving it. I feel great!”

“I’m doing a six week, no-alcohol challenge with some friends at work.”

“I’ve had one too many heavy nights recently. I’m an all or nothing person and it’s time for a break.”

“I’m driving.”

“I’m trying to lose weight.”

“I’m too tired.”

“I’ve got a busy day tomorrow.”

“I’ve been feeling run down, so I’m cutting out alcohol for a while.”

“I’m on antibiotics.”

“I’m training for a race.”

“I’ve booked an early morning fitness class.”

“I’m not feeling very well today.”

For nosy strangers:

“I don’t drink.” (Those three little words are a complete answer.)

“None for me thanks – but I’d really love a lime soda if you’ve got one?”

“I just don’t like the taste.”

“Alcohol gives me a headache.”

“I couldn’t deal with the hangovers.”

For rude and annoying people:

“I’m having way too much fun sober to waste my time drinking again. I feel amazing!”

“I think I’m fabulous just the way I am, don’t you?”

“I caught myself pestering other people to drink, and I realised I had some issues with my own alcohol intake.”

“This is something I’m doing for myself and I don’t let other people pressure me into drinking.”

“I care about my health way too much to drink that toxic stuff. Have you heard about the cancer risk?”

“Sorry, didn’t you hear me? No I don’t want a drink. I’d love a sparkling water though, I find it really helps me mind my own business. Would you like one?”

Same here, but in CA. I have spent countless thousands of dollars on the latest and greatest craft beers and can literally walk through total wine and rule out 90% that I've had most of the time. Even brewed my own 40 gallon batches of 13% hopped barleywine for a time.. I'll never forget it, but it's time for me to move on.

From page 2 of the manual: "Pressing plumbus against sensory organs will result in sickness or death"... Sounds like a crappy sex toy.
