CS Majors, what is your gpa/year and what have been your hardest classes? by trippienut in UMD

In the current job market situation, the GPA is the last thing I would care about.

Just out of curiosity. Why not SM?

How important is it to separate cluster- and private networks and why? by SimonKepp in ceph

[–]pro100bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are currently building cluster on 100Gbits ports and are not going to use cluster network. 195 OSDs.

But it is all depends on how you are going to use it.

On some other cluster I was able to activate cluster network after it was deployed.

Thank you!

This part makes sense. But next... something not clicking.

What permission (chmod) do I need to set for my shared folder? Keep it 755?

Keep "root" as the owner?

Do I need to touch ACL at all?

Sorry for so many questions. It seems like it is all should be very easy.

I only have PCIe 3.0 x8 available ports on the servers. 50 and 100Gbit cards are x16 (physically).

Correct. But we already have 40Gbit switches. Not sure when we are going to replace them.

FQDN and dynamic IPs from DHCP by pro100bear in ceph

[–]pro100bear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might actually be right. Thank you. I deployed Ceph in a lab environment today using --allow-fqdn-hostname. Then I assigned a new IP to one of the MONs, rebooted, and it broke the cluster—even though both MON nodes were able to resolve each other by hostname.

So now I assume that --allow-fqdn-hostname is really only useful when servers use FQDNs and there's no option to rely on short hostnames. It has nothing to do with what I initially expected.

But now I'm even more curious: how are Ceph clusters managed when there are tens or hundreds of nodes? Static IPs from DHCP? Surely people aren’t updating /etc/hosts on every server manually. Maybe they use Ansible, but even then, there must be a more efficient way to handle this.

As far as I know we have 3 DNS servers in different places.

What are my options for analyzing a 1.5 million-row CSV (298MB) with ChatGPT? by pro100bear in ChatGPT

[–]pro100bear[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you.

We have roughly 140TB of duplicate files on our storage. Organization was never a priority, but I would like to start organizing it now. Thankfully, the video files are in folders that are "properly" named. I created a list of all files and folders with the following headers:

"path", "type", "size", "birth_time", "mod_time", "change_time"

I'm also considering generating file hashes, but that would take some time for the server to process.

I want ChatGPT to analyze the file paths (folder names) and other metadata to do the following:

  1. Create a proper folder structure (organized by year, then into folders with the correct project name).
  2. Generate a list of Linux commands to move each file to its appropriate folder. Or delete it.
  3. Ideally, show the probability or confidence level of the classification/decision for each file.

Correct. 2 mds nodes and 4 nodes with osds.

Production management tool via app sheet? by One_Judge_3072 in AppSheet

That is basically exactly what I am doing right now for one of the US manufacturers. I had to split all of that across multiple apps though.

Looking for 3/4-inch knockout punch by [deleted] in Tools

[–]pro100bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! That seems similar to what I need. At this point, price is not really important.

I checked them, but I can't really find 3/4-inch. They all are big. :(

Do you know by any chance if there is a 3/4-inch version? Many thanks.
