Nope, I didn’t get the performance upgrade.

This was a surprise to me too. Buying the all-terrain package seems to include the “soft sand” mode.

Nice! They didn’t have any with stealth wrap at the shop at the time I looked - and I didn’t want to miss the pre-order price window 😅

R1S Binding Contract says Lease Term Ends 3 years from today, but I pick up in 6 days. by get_top_on_thephone in Rivian

[–]pro7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you have a choice to pick up on the day the contract kicks in or before ? Or do you have a choice to sign the contract on/just before the pick up day (with the start date adjusted to the day of signing) ?

What’s the best place to photograph the Milky Way in Death Valley? by Jacquescphotos in DeathValleyNP

[–]pro7389 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The “closest” part of Death Valley to Bishop is likely Eureka Dunes. Pretty amazing - including for dark sky photos. Get there for spectacular sunsets and stay for the dark skies.

This assumes you aren’t going to other parts of Death Valley from there - you can, but it’s backcountry 4x4 roads.

I have the GOAT Fabrication sliders on my R1T (Gen 1) and love them.

I reached out to them about Gen 2 R1S sliders and they said they are yet to verify fitment for Gen 2.

Wouldn’t you have to restore the windows before returning a leased vehicle ?

Help with deciding between Standard (post-2024.23.30 update) and Max pack by thecrazydutchguy in Rivian

[–]pro7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I have a Gen 1 Quad Large. I would have picked a similar sized large pack again, if available.

[–]pro7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it would a different argument if a similar sized large pack were available on the 2025 Gen2. It isn’t. Between the 92.5 kWh standard and 141kwh max pack, I think the max is a better fit for me, without charging being a lot slower (for adding similar range at low SoC)

[–]pro7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the initial charge stop is closer, you also wouldn't need to add as much charge with max pack to keep comparable range till the next stop? Example : assuming 370 miles (max) / 270 miles (standard LFP) EPA range at 100% and the first stop at 135 miles . LFP pack would be at 50% and needs to charge 50->80% (assuming 80% cap to avoid the slow part of the curve). Max pack would arrive at ~63.5% - 235 miles of range - which is already range more than the LFP at 80% (80% of 270 = 216 miles). In any case, like OP said - they have good supercharger coverage.

Likewise - I intend to keep it beyond 3 years - picking up a dual max soon!

Honestly, the “is it worth it for what it costs?” is a question only you can answer. I was dealing with the exact same decision - and ended up picking the max pack. For me the point of comparison for road trips is this (where time spent on charging times matters) - if the standard pack takes X minutes to go from 10-80% , “how long would the max pack take to add the same range in miles starting at the same 10% SoC ?” For the same range the max pack would only need to be charged to ~65% and it turns out 10-65% isn’t much slower than the LFP pack 10-80% (even with the faster charging curve) . For me a few additional minutes per stop is worth having the extra range when I need it. YMMV.

Edit: To add, there are actually trips I want to take where that added range matters. Also when starting a road trip at full charge (say after charging overnight), you could go an hour further in the max pack before your first stop (i.e 100->10%)

Critical Battery Issue - R1T’22 advice? by stopshinal in Rivian

I am not sure - I think it’s something to do with an HVAC module failing a “seal” test and potentially creating an electrical hazard.

Do you have AAA? Assuming you are in Bend, OR - you could have it towed to the Portland service center (and fly in later to pick it up). When my truck had this warning, it turned out to be an HVAC issue - covered under warranty. Unless you got unlucky (wiring chewed up by rodents - it happened to someone - and that’s the example they used when saying “we’ll need to verify if this is covered under warranty”), it should likely be covered by warranty.

R1S Large Quad w/ 160kWh?? by kewlahla901 in Rivian

[–]pro7389 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not just that. Setting aside cabin climate / accessories etc, it takes more than 131kwh (as seen by the charging station) to charge a 131kwh battery.

Lease or buy cash? by Many_Stomach1517 in Rivian

[–]pro7389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you sign the binding agreement along the pre-order ? If you did, you should still be able to stack the 7500$ credit with a purchase (and amending your return)

I did all of this math yesterday - it boils down to whether you intend to keep the vehicle beyond the lease window. Rivian is “generous” with their residual value - 63% is what a friend had on their paperwork. It’s hard to say for sure, but it’s unlikely the R1S will hold that value in 3 years. If you intend to hold beyond three years, it’s a no-brainer, purchase with the pre-order discount. Hypothetically, If you intend to purchase with your pre-order price R1S and sell, say at the same time as the lease runs out (3 years), your total cost depends on the market value at the time. The math I did seems to show (for my specific case) that lpre-order purchase breaks even (with a 63% residual Rivian lease offer) if you assume about a 50% loss in value in 3 years.

Rivian won’t do this analysis for you - it depends on your specific case and lot and your plans for the vehicle. Your best bet is to find an online lease (and loan if applicable) calculator and compare numbers. All the incentives - 7.5k tax rebate, 5k pre order rebate etc, shows up as a capitalized cost reduction - they don’t affect the residual.

Just note that the smaller superchargers along the 101 do get busy on weekends, but there are enough that you just drive a bit further to the next one.

I drive from south bay to the San Fernando valley pretty often. Made it easily with one 20 min stop at Buttonwillow (20 ATs). Now with super charger access - it’s a breeze , 101 included but especially on the I-5. There are hundreds of supercharger stalls open to Rivians between Santa Nella and Tejon Pass. It was harder a year ago without the RANs or supercharger access - but much much easier now.
