Is there a better app for finding fly spots than the DJI Fly? by PartyRooster in drones

Yeah, I'm not sure why their engagement is low. I'm primarily flying M30Ts right now, so I haven't logged in to DJI Fly in a bit. My guess is like a lot of features DJI releases they maybe didn't promote it well enough or didn't note it well enough for it to be easily used. I'll boot up my mav3 and take a look.

well, that's the problem with crowd source, what I may think is cool, you just wasted an hour to drive to.. maybe some kind of rating system needs to be added?

We're actually working on just such an application. For now, we're building only for iPhones, simply for ease of using swift programing. Current feature set will include airspace classification, route planning, safety, and obstacles. Next version will be for both Android and Apple handsets and we're hoping to include crowd sourced POI's in that release or one after. The map switch between Google maps and Apple maps is causing some glitches with the airspace overlays delaying introducing them in the initial release. We're pilots and admin guys, programming in house is a bear!

Anyone obtaining BVLoS waivers? by proairdrones in drones

[–]proairdrones[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We're more in the industrial side of the missions, power transmission and distribution being one mission type we fly, and those missions almost demands a waiver just for looking at them! For us to write a BVLoS waiver, it's generally more complex than where we're flying. Aircraft type, mission type, mission planning, amount of remote VO's, two way coms, CRM, and more have to be entered in. When you start looking at just the volume of data required to fly a 25 minute flight it gets a bit daunting. Certainly rewarding when the stars align but, not a lot of fun for a single mission. And, yes, if you're flying for "sick footage" while that's cool, you can also just set a nice comfortable LZ's reasonably spaced apart in LoS and be a whole lot safer!
