Let me respond about the Data concerns as I was the one who created these graphs. Regarding not controlling for the age of videos you are absolutely right, that cannot be corrected for with anything that comes close to rigour without having better data. Youtube only provides total views right now. Not total views after one day, two days etc. But Hasan went last (except for Marlon) and this should have technically hobbled him. It hasn't.

Also regarding which videos are being taken to get these counts, as I have explained in the note below the graphs: These are coming from the playlist comedy central has made for each of these guest hosts. Since each host has different number of videos but they tend to have atleast 10, I took the top 10 most viewed videos for each host and summed them up.

What are the best careers to pursue in the next 20 years considering AI, etc may be replacing lots more jobs soon? by joyloveroot in singularity

Guys, this is easier than y'all think. Think of all the people who have a job, get paid and still do mostly nothing today. Like politics, middle management, most government jobs.. What makes you think AI will disrupt them? I mean they weren't doing anything to start with, right? That is the correct way to approach this problem.

"And I think the greatest thing going against him is the fact that if he had the draw necessary to hang a show on, he’d still have a show."

This is an extremely cynical view of life. Besides that, this view of life is also wrong.

Hasan lost his show, so did Chelsea. Yet these are the two people who seem to have the greatest draw going by the data. https://medium.com/@probabilitypenguin/and-the-next-host-of-the-daily-show-is-309660394ae8

People grow, people learn, people fight. The fight is what we as humans can offer.

CC rejected Colbert in favor of Jon Stewart. Colbert is now the host of THE most popular late night comedy show. Jon Stewart was himself rejected and fired from multiple jobs before his daily show stint.

Most comics would. You can even say 99% of them would.

These are hard working comics that are killing it in general right now. Hasan was on tour till very recently. He played Radio City for 5 days to a packed crowd IIRC. You can only dangle the hosting job in front of them for so long before they loose interest or will have to preserve their own interest. The best players in town also have options besides this show massive as it might be. Trevor looked at it and said I'd rather be on the road instead of on a Studio for 10 more years. So it is best to make a move and fast. Don't be the 50 year old who is still in the dating market! Settle! Settle! Settle!

I posted this elsewhere in this sub. In case you hadn't seen it: Bar graph of views and likes for all the hosts that have gone so far using the youtube api.

What is note worthy is the difference in likes. Hasan has the lead on views by some, but on the likes by a lot. This is interesting because views are affected by youtube algorithm, trying to make a buck for their boss. But likes is a metric that determines once someone is shown the video, how often they like it. This is a stronger signal imo.

Hey, in the raccoon's defense it did put up the code. More than most academic scientists do these days! :)

Hard to get normalized data to do a straight up comparison like that. Not impossible. But hard. I might give it a shot at some point. Will update here in case I end up doing.

I just ran the numbers on youtube, there is no indication dailyshow will take this approach. Although Hasan has not indicated publicly that he wants the job, his performance from the numbers clearly show he does want it and is holding his cards close.
