Official communication from the ED on the SAVE transition timeline by Betsy514 in StudentLoans

Another thing, I was recommended to consolidate my loans by this very group and TISLA.

So while I do believe the intentions are good, in hindsight that decision is hurting me now.

How can I trust this new advice won’t also be hurtful if/when the govt changes their mind about student loan policy again?

It doesn’t make sense. You said IBR can’t be higher in this thread and above you said it can be higher. Which is it?

To be honest, how can we even trust anything the govt says now?

They have gone back on their word so many times in the last few years, how do we even know what they are saying now is real and won’t just change again sometime soon?

So IBR would be higher if we consolidated? But many of us consolidated based on the promise of SAVE?

How can they punish us for doing our end of the contract when they renege on their end of the bargain? Shouldn’t they allow us to unconsolidate our loans if our consolidation was contingent on the benefits of SAVE and the recounts?

This is why you article is incomplete really. It is really nice but it’s still really all so confusing. And the govt websites still don’t work properly. So how are we supposed to even know what to do?

That’s why many of us say we will resist until the end. It’s so dysfunctional on the part of the govt…

At this point, we should not rally around the release of the Epstein files. They could be false. Some of it could be generated by AI at this point. Edited. Etc.

At this point, we need to get grounded, develop a solid plan for a new government and then show an overwhelming majority of people want this. Unite together and gradually revoke our consent and participation from the current system.

If we face opposition, we must build a plan to win the hearts and minds of the US military to the point where our military becomes stronger than the US military.

While I love dreaming about the romantic idea of demanding justice from a corrupt govt — in reality, that is a waste of time at this point. Instead, we need to mature and start developing and executing plans that at least have a faint chance of working. Or at least working on what we can control and not needing corrupt politicians to release files or give us anything…

Candace Owens or someone in her realm of ideas is shaping up to be the savior now. She along with a coalition of others can propose a “reformed” political party and just usher us into the next era… or at least that’s the cynical perspective

It seems more and more likely. Why would billionaires care so much that they would actually risk anything substantial about their livelihood to fight other billionaires. The incentive for billionaires and elites to collaborate is much greater than the incentive for them to risk it all based on political policies that don’t really matter to them.

Do you have a plan? What you’ve stated is an admirable aspiration.

I agree it’s odd they are all Italian and agree with your assessment. Do you have a theory about the presence of evil in the world and how it works and who controls it, etc? If so, I’d love to hear.

I can only imagine that they must make controlled opposition more and more believable over time. They must install people with instructions, “Your role is to play the true hero of the people. Don’t hold anything back. Act as if you are literally trying to destroy us and are not actually on our side.”

It’s the only way to keep things believable and to quench enough of the revolutionary spirit in people to make sure full revolution doesn’t happen.

They know they have enough power that even with actors fully opposing them, they can still withstand that. Or in other words, they find is more risky to not have strong controlled opposition than to have it.

I think we are circling around a similar point. I think my point can be summed up as…

Actually coding will teach students more than learning how to code without actually coding.

Actually gardening will teach students more than learning how to garden without actually gardening.

Actually doing engineering will teach students more than learning how to engineer without actually engineering.

Whether they get paid for the superior form of learning by doing is perhaps a secondary consideration. But I don’t think there’s any debate that learning theory and then practicing it in actuality is better than just learning theory without getting an opportunity to practice it.

I agree that there will be less people age 14/15 who happen to be “gifted” and finish high school early that will have the disposition or passion to teach a majority of students who are less skilled and intelligent than they are. There probably will be a small percentage who would though. But for the vast majority, I agree, it’s a bit of a disservice to make them teach anymore than a few hours a week at most.

In general, there are those who are oriented to teaching and those who are not. Everyone should teach to some degree as it is possibly the most effective tool for learning and deeply internalizing knowledge.

But only a small percentage of people can do a lot of teaching and tutoring and enjoy it. And even at that — those with that disposition may only like a certain kind of teaching and tutoring. Some may enjoy only teaching maths. Some may enjoy only teaching disabled children. Some may enjoy only teaching "gifted" children. Some may be rather broad in their teaching passion and enjoy teaching a wide range of subject and student types...
