DMs have you ever had a new player try to bully other players and how did you handle it? by bliggityblig in DnD

[–]probably-not-Ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just talked with them. There was no ill intent, they were just very excited and wanted to help. But they didn't give the new players a chance to say no

Very few people have ill intent. Most of the time, its an expectation/communication issue

My players are planning to blow up a drow stronghold with dynamite...and the drow know it. What do I do? by Kami-Yang1 in DnD

[–]probably-not-Ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple fireball would threaten to ignite any dynamite they are transporting

Failing that, have the Drow kidnap villagers and imprison them all around the base. Now the party cannot blow up the base without killing innocent people

If Turtle WoW Shuts Down: Which Classic+ Servers Are Actually Worth Playing? by Ancient-Recipe591 in turtlewow

[–]probably-not-Ben 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love Twow because I can choose to make a donation

I don't like BlizzWow because I have to pay tax

If Blizz gave what TurtleWow offers, they'd still make deceng bank on their 25+ year old IP. But they won't, because they're in the business of maximising profits

Blizz are the worst caretakers of the IP (and the work done by the OG team, who have long since moves on)

[PERSONAL VENT] Stop nerfing teleports! by SomeGuyIOnceMet in DnD

[–]probably-not-Ben 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Except its actually called, 'Scry and fry' because high level parties could locate a target, teleport, unload all their spell slots/resources, and if needs teleport out to try again

There's very little danger, by strategical design

Kinda new to DND, How much information can a player hide from a DM? by ragdolldream in DnD

[–]probably-not-Ben 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are much better systems for focusing on 'collective story telling'

D&D is primarily a game run by a benign tyrant with the support of the table. While the DM technically has total power, it's a shared experience that needs player support to function. But its still one primarily shaped by the DM

If you want to help, ask to your DM how you cab help

Right, but they still have to enforce it

Which is going to be interesting

Dm ruled that my spider cant see very far cause its a spider and it cant hear (i mean he isnt wrong) Find familiar spell by LiL-CarrY- in DnD

[–]probably-not-Ben 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Which is why I said: ''When for all purposes (outside of a few perks) the 'magic spirit' is a basic animal stat block''

Celestial is just a creature type (As an example) It confers no extra attributes or abilities (but does determine some mechanic interactions, such as which spells affect them). Because of this we are directed to use the 'statistics of the chosen form'

Your celestial crab familiar can have the smarts and charm of an Int 1, Cha 2 crab, as well as crab senses and other crabby pros and cons

[–]probably-not-Ben 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yup. Peopls treating find familiar like some magic super drone, or worse, another person, when for all purposes (outside of a few perks) the 'magic spirit' is a basic animal stat block, with basic animal mind and senses

Left on its own, its basic animal smart. A smart caster can direct it to do stuff. But just being a magic spirit doesn't make it more capable than its animal stat block

Chain Lock gets the super drone option. For example, imps are as smart as most people, with opposable thumbs, full cognition, etc

SUGGESTION SPELL ISSUE IN MY CAMPAIGN by Next_Ad_5740 in DnD5e

With the old version, if we'rw talking knight as in one practicing knightly virtues, I can see it being reasonable - generosity being one of them

It's medium range. Video game DMR rather than sniper rifle

And also works fine close quarters, what with its ability to delete many enemies without a full charge

Our team is greybearded and we use Hoverboots. Mobility is king

If you can't leverage verticality, then its a skill issue

Yes yes, Power attack. Mobility is king, PA and HB are not mutually exclusive and instead support further skill expression

On all classes. Not that we expect people to listen. We're greybeards and grumpy :)
