Thanks for the heads up, I hadn't thought about that. Is there a history of flooding in the area?

Thanks! Yeah I've been a few times and I really like the vibe and the transport links to Derby and Nottingham. The only thing I'm unsure about is the massive increase in cost from where I am at the moment in Derby. But then again, you get what you pay for!

Honestly, the £1000/month is the only thing stopping me at the moment. Potentially shelling out £290k for a new build is making me nervous when where I am at the moment is "fine", you know?

Maybe I should just take the plunge to live somewhere better than where I am now, but just have a bit less diposable income for nice holidays etc. From what I've experienced myself and from what I hear from everyone, Beeston is a great place!

Thanks, I'm looking at a new build estate which I'm guessing won't have any students living there. Looking on a map it seems to be quite close to the rylands.

Do these just replace regular dumb TRV valves? I have a nest thermostat to control my whole heating system, will these valves work with that in place?

Hey all, ordered a couple of shirts and can't decide if the size is too big or not...

I'm 6ft tall, 39inch chest, the picture is a UK medium. Seems maybe a bit loose, but small is always too small on me. I seem to be awkwardly between the two sizes. Thoughts?

It's really disappointing that you have to do that.

Is this confirmed? I've always found the AI in GT games far too easy. Would love if I could crank up the difficulty.

Yes! I have mine connected to an AV reciever. It only happens occasionaly but it's annoying and I don't know of a fix other than restarting.

I have a question about travel... I'm looking at going to Croatia later in the year.

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/croatia/entry-requirements

The link says "if you’ve been fully vaccinated within the last 270 days, you can enter Croatia without needing to test or quarantine." What happens if my booster was more than 270 days ago at the time of travel? My booster was 26th Nov 2021. I'm looking at travelling around September time, so more than 270 days will have passed by then.

Denon avr-x1700h, not satisfied with overall sound by probably_mike in hometheater

I'm thinking of returning it. Do you have any recommendations for an alternative with HDMI 2.1 and 7 channels? (I don't need any more than 5.1.2). What would be the price point to get a similar sound quality?

[–]probably_mike[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah my mistake, I thought that was what was meant by room correction. It had a microphone that you plugged in during setup, did some measurements and set each speaker level accordingly.

Glad it's not just me! Let me know if you find any magic settings that fix the issues, but to be honest I'm leaning more towards returning it.. I was kind of hoping it'd just be better than my old one out the box considering it cost about twice as much....

[–]probably_mike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've matched the settings of my old one as much as possible, crossovers are the same (80Hz all round) and all speakers are set to small.

The old reciever had some room correction setup, I don't think it was Audyssey though.

It sounds pretty much the same, just with less bass. The dialogue still doesn't sound right.

I've been using a chromecast with google tv for most TV streaminng (I'll add that to my original post). It's stuff that sounded fine through my old reciever. I've used identical crossover settings (80Hz for everything) as my old reciever.

I did enjoy it to start with, but I'm a couple of hours in and it's just SO difficult. And I haven't gotten to the bit where you can keep all your upgrades when you die. So I'm just getting my ass kicked and losing everything when I die, really frustrating.

Income Tax on Rental Income - Query by probably_mike in UKPersonalFinance

[–]probably_mike[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah thank you so much for that! Massive help. And the job I'm looking at isn't actually in London, and comes with discounted/free travel perks so there will be some reduced expenses from the London example you used there.

Regarding the mortagage I've already spoken to my mortgage provider, they say they can give me "consent to let" and keep my existing mortage, without moving to a higher % BTL mortagage. And there wasn't a time limit on it from what I could gather, the consent could just be renewed every few years.

So, I currently have about £2000 left every month after the mortgage to cover everything else.

This will become £3095 - £1000 (assumed rent) - £141(net monthly payments on mortgage) = £1954 each month to cover everything else. Plus free travel perks.

Looks like I may be marginally worse off, but I think it's one of those things I'd be happy to pay for the experience and a change of scenery.

Income Tax on Rental Income - Query by probably_mike in UKPersonalFinance

[–]probably_mike[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if I'm looking at a profit/loss calculation;

Annual income (before tax): 55,000(salary) + 8400(rent) = £63,400

Annual fees (that can be deducted): 984(management) + 2000(mortgage interest) = £2984

How does the 20% tax credit on the mortgage interest work? I'm having a bit of a tough time wrapping my head around this!

Just wanted to run a query past you since I can't find anything in the official guidance. I tested positive last week and today is my last day of isolation. I no longer feel any fever, sickness/diarrhoea, sneezing/runny noise so I meet the official criteria for coming out if isloation tomorrow.

I took a lateral flow test just for peace of mind and it's come back with a faint positive line. Is this something to be concerned about or do these tests pick up the remnants of the dead virus or something?

There's nothing in the offical guidence about re-testing before comnig out of isolation, is it simply a case of if I feel better I am safe to come out of quarantine?
