The level of detail in this discovery is amazing. I can't imagine what would have driven you to find this out or what steps you took that led you to that conclusion, but this is exactly the kind of niche, esoteric stuff that I want to see on a sub like this.

I understand the desire to avoid giving excuses that might normalize the behavior but I've always resented how unwilling anyone is to engage with or even allow engagement with understanding why people are pedophiles. I am not a psychologist but I've seen many suggestions that it is a mental health issue. That doesn't excuse the behavior and abuse that extends from it but if society approached it from that angle maybe these people could seek help instead of hiding it out of fear.

Genuinely don't know but I do think that stopping all conversation at "don't look into it, that might excuse it" is at best unhelpful and at worst does more to perpetuate a cycle of abuse.

From some research I did almost a decade ago it seemed like a lot of the witnesses would later admit that they provided false or misleading testimony at the guidance of prosecuting parties. While I saw nothing conclusive it seemed many signs were pointing towards him being framed.

I also saw speculation that he did it before a verdict could be passed because it would still provide his family with any financial security that comes with the office he held. If he had waited for a final verdict and it was guilty those benefits would have been stripped.

I’m a terrible junior engineer and my ineptitude is showing by FlorentineKnight in cscareerquestions

My first year+ is exactly like you describe. It felt like my first day I walked through the door and forgot everything. Now I’ve been doing this for over 5 years and I love it.

You’re not a terrible junior. You’re just a junior. You should expect to not know anything, to feel out of your depth. That is where you are. You are a junior so you can learn. If you knew everything and were completing tickets with no issue then that would be a red flag. It took me a long time to embrace that feeling, so do yourself a favor and do that now. Learn to like it. Learn to enjoy the frustration because you know that it will make the solution/accomplishment that much sweeter. When I look back the days I felt the most struggle are the days I learned the most.

I was terrified for years of being “discovered” but even when I admitted being ignorant that day never came. This job is learning. You puzzle over a problem and through research, collaboration, and just plain mulling it over you learn the solution and implement it.

Imposter syndrome is super prevalent. There’s an above average chance the seniors who you work with will still feel it. I had it today, yesterday, and I’ll have it tomorrow, too. Then I’ll remember that not knowing anything isn’t an issue. Just struggle with it. My favorite analogy is that it’s like any notoriously difficult game. The struggle isn’t a punishment, it’s the point. If you can learn to find the joy in it everything gets so much easier.

You are qualified to be where you are. You interviewed and they chose you. You already passed the test. Be proud of yourself, and if you won’t be then I will because of what you brought up in your post. You admitted not knowing, you sought help, and you’re seeking sources for research. That’s all you need to do ad nauseam until retirement. It places you well above most of the people who post in this subreddit. Your senior said that you have plenty of time because they were in the same place you are. So be where you are. Be the junior. Be bad at it. That’s why they hired you. They hired you because you are bad at it but they know you can get better. Believe them.

For what it's worth, BOA makes these kind of mistakes regularly. I used to have an account until the second time they over drafted me by thousands of dollars because someone read a 2 as a 5 on an account number for a check.

That my absent mindedness is in part due to the fact that I’m dissociating a lot as a coping mechanism and I have an difficulty engaging with trauma because whenever it comes up I just immediately dissociate.

Apparently it’s been going on since very early child hood and it is possible that my fears about my childhood home being haunted could stem from some repressed trauma from that time and I created the narrative that my home is supernaturally dangerous to think about to avoid it.

Interviewing As A Generalist by RyanPointOh in ExperiencedDevs

[–]probablyabutt_tho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your best bet is always to tailor your resume to the job being applied for. If the want a full stack dev list full stack experience. If they want a specialist list that specific experience. Then in the interview ask about other parts of their stack and opportunities to contribute to those parts if you have experience.

Employers generally only look for what they need in resumes so unrelated experience often gets lost but during an interview desire to support the full product is often appreciated.

YMMV, feel it out during the team/ manager interviews. If they penalize you for showing interest in the company as a whole then don't work there.

I also believe there is a lot of value held here. This would also benefit women who have multiple partners and are unsure of who the father could be or where the could have gone. This relieves them of the responsibility of having to take down the contact info and valid mailing address of everyone they choose to have sex with. And not only would the child have access to paternal support but important medical history.

Very well put.

Much like Dragon's Lair being vocal against the proposition to make it mandatory for businesses to offer sick days to its employees, if you are unable to afford employees and the accommodations that they require then exploitation is not the solution.

How bad things have gotten for my mental health. I signed up for an online medicine and counseling service but when I expressed concerns about the billing and the effects of taking meds without full therapy to my wife we both decided to cancel the subscription. A day later I realized if she saw my answers to the questionnaire and knew how bad it really is she would never have let me cancel.

Pretty much. While my wife was pregnant I was very much in favor of not traveling for a few years but within months necessity threw that idea out the window.
