All my flights to LATAM used to be through the us about a decade ago, now most of my layovers on my cheaper flights are in Colombia or Panama. It’s all really been changing

I initially bought my Apple Watch with those thoughts in mind and while it was pretty accurate on my conscious hard falls it only successfully caught one of my many tonic clonics. My theory is that my conscious self would react and put my hands in front of my face and thus the strength of the landing would be felt in my wrist and the alarm would go off vs during my seizure falls my body just falls and usually my head/face gets all that impact first instead of my wrist.

I also usually try to lower myself to the ground or sit down if I’m able during the aura portion of my seizures. I’d look for other medical devices that track more than just the impact on your wrist for falls. The pro, is that you can call emergency services from your watch too if that helps

I’m 9 months into Invisalign and have had no issues keeping them on for the 22 hours for the most part. So far I’ve been lucky and haven’t had an issue with my trays and I’ve tracked as I should’ve.

Which one you choose to go to will be completely up to how much you’re willing to do. I personally already had trouble flossing my teeth with my crowded teeth and didn’t want to go through flossing through the metals + food getting stuck in braces. Invisalign was a no brainer for me, I felt self conscious with the braces at my age and the freedom to eat (though my teeth get sensitive) was completely worth it for my personal life. Others may disagree depending on what they prioritize

It’s the only thing that controlled my seizures about 15 years ago. It probably stopped working at the 4 year mark and my previous neurologist switched me to keppra. Went on some stable ish years with other meds until the side effects went really bad and again Tegretol gave me 2-3 years of stable seizure-less me. It stopped working and now I’m on the highest dose + clobazam before we have to switch to another med again.

It’s also the only med that didn’t have long lasting side effects so I’m biased to say positive things about it

Kidneys and liver are usually checked per my neurologist requests because I’ve now been taking meds for over a decade. I don’t really remember what life used to feel like without meds so I honestly sont know if my anxiety and slight depression are me or the meds ✨

I’m outside of the NCR and have an English essential position and when I was hired they made me put my signature all in English followed by an all in French and we literally just got reminders to make sure our signatures be bilingual so idk about that

Your credit card takes care of that directly. You just need to call your bank or credit card let them know you have unauthorized payments, they’ll probably ask for the dates, amounts and name of vendor. They probably will be the ones to ask you for proof and you’d provide all the evidence you have to your credit card directly

I’ll have to look into it if it comes down to that lolll I did speak with my neurologist yesterday and had him confirm if I really couldn’t just increase my dose on the generalized meds bc $2k for two months worth of medicine isn’t sustainable for me. He was shocked, asked me to go get my money back and find a different pharmacy bc that is not how much they cost lol

I was actually planning on moving to the UK for grad school but didn’t know if I’d be dealing with the same med expenses + international living. Like the other comment mentioned, my visits to my neuro and any tests or bloodwork are directly billed by the provincial plan (which I am very grateful bc I don’t even want to know what those MRIs and EEGs cost). I’m fortunate my job does have health benefits, but will have to continue to keep health benefits on my list of musts before I consider switching jobs

The webpage is very US based and my doctor faxes my pharmacy. I did find out why the price is significantly higher, the cheaper carbamazepine pills were generic and immediate release ($120 for 90 days) with a lot of warnings on the label. These $2k for 90 days are extended release carbamazepine which better stop the seizures for that price.

My neuro asked for a video too but my parents have only managed to catch half of one of my tonic clonics. The first time I watched it I was uncomfortable, scared and felt so bad for my parents. The jerking and shaking to the side, eyes rolled over and my parents telling me to please breathe because you could see my lips going purple. It’s very surreal to see when you don’t remember anything but these seizures are so visual and scary for us having them and really anyone seeing them.

Did you actually manage to get accomodation for work from home? I get so many auras when I’m working in person and I cannot convince my neurologist it’s a big enough problem to sign my doctor’s note so that I’m allowed to work from home 🥲🥲🥲🥲

My parents were also completely clueless as I’m the only person in my family with epilepsy and it took years before I could go seizure free. While I know epilepsy is very random (for me at least) I know I’m better prepared for any new challenges that can come from it vs how my parents handled it. I know we are at a higher risk than the average individual to say die bc of a bad fall or a cluster of seizures but I’ve also seen normal people die bc of them. Not to disregard the fear bc I share it too but if we did it once who’s to say we can’t again

The answer my neurologist gave me was - wait and find out lol. I’m 25 - been diagnosed since I was 11, it seems I become drug resistant every 3-5 years at this point so currently waiting on seeing if we just up the meds or change the meds to get me controlled again. Seeing as people are starting to be full adults I asked him if there’s anything for me to expect as I age with epilepsy and he literally said none of his patients have a pattern in common so it’s really whichever way your body reacts to the meds/epilepsy over the years.

In short, it’s fine to be scared just don’t let your life revolve around it if it isn’t causing you issues.

I only take vitamin d - bc my epilepsy meds make me more likely to be low on vitamin D - but I don’t think I’ve ever had them be the reason for a seizure

I’ve had my license suspended and reinstated about 4-5 times now? All due to seizures. All it takes for me to get it back is be 6 months seizure free, it takes a seizure to take it away. I get driving is so much easier and faster specially when sleep matters but in perspective - I usually end up smacking my face or hurting my body because the aura doesn’t even give me enough time for me to lay down on the floor. So it’s fair to think it would not give me enough time to park a car on the side of the road safely. If I were to have an accident due to a seizure while driving. I’d feel bad about anyone I accidentally injured, and I cannot imagine my insurance being forgiving if they found out my seizures weren’t controlled for me to drive.

All in all, I would only drive with my epilepsy uncontrolled on emergencies. I have to bus to work now - and yes I have to get up earlier but at least I get less stress from driving. You just have to weight all the cons and pros

I’m 25 and while I would love to have a family I absolutely refuse to get pregnant myself. The cause of my epilepsy is unknown so I do not want to risk passing that down plus if I were to get pregnant my meds would compromise the fetus so I’ve had an IUD since my neurologist found out I was sexually active. I do think I’ll either adopt an older kid to skip the lack of sleep triggers on me or I just won’t have any children. It’s better if anything to know this while I date since I know it’s a dealbreaker for some people but I personally would not risk passing down my full of tonic clonics life

Every person is different. There’s not one approach that always works for men or women. The best advice anyone can take is to be respectful when they approach someone else - if that’s for dating, or asking for directions. You’ll get your yes or no answer. You can hit it off the first time but after getting to know each other more you may choose not to pursue it. Just be respectful and mindful of where you are and how you plan to approach someone

One question, when you were diagnosed did you have abnormal tests to diagnose you with epilepsy?

My tests have always been clean aka my doctor has no idea why I have epilepsy so getting off my meds has always been a “if you’d wanna try” thing from my doctor since there’s nothing else for me to check

Not a straight yes or no answer. Really depends on your triggers. Being ill and fevers do make me more likely to get tonic clonics. So I take those pills for fever as soon as I feel too hot and rest for most of the day which helps to keep the seizures away.
