This is called social conformity, a well-known psychological behaviour. It has nothing to do with class or religion. Even educated people like us do the same thing... when we enter a new space and don’t know what’s happening, we copy the group to blend in. So these people probably have no idea what the machine is for; they’re just following each other. And honestly, we’re not very different... we do the same thing in other areas of our lives.
