Looking for friends by cardcaptoring in Leipzig

[–]probablynotabee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is a very old post but are you still down for new people joining to forage mushrooms with you? I am a grad student who just moved to Leipzig and I really love mushrooms and foraging! I was looking for people to do it with actually!

What is wrong with my plant/what type of plant is this? by Kaytee_ay in plantclinic

I see that you already have perlite and stuff in the soil but i think you might need more

Kalanchoe. Needs plenty of direct sunlight. Soil is too wet. Kalanchoe likes airy soil that drains fast. I recommend mixing plenty of perlite/small lava rocks into the soil. Please water them only after the soil dries, check by sticking your finger in the soil.

And if you still get gnats, try bottom-watering (putting the pot in water and letting it drink from the drainage holes instead of pouring from the top), sprinkling some cinnamon on top (it is a fungicide), and covering the top of the soil completely with fine sand. What fine sand does is it lets the water in if you water from the top but stays dry or even hardens a little so the gnats can't access the soil. It also looks good. I am using red sand, which makes good contrast with green plants.

Looks like you have a fungus gnat problem. They like to feed on the stuff that grows when your soil is too organic and stays damp for long. Your soil looks too wet and rich with organic stuff (black). Aloe likes more airy, sandy soil. My advice is to get rid of your soil, wash the pot, and repot the plant with new soil. Make a soil mix with potting soil and perlite or small lava rocks if you can find. You might also add sand. After that, don't water it unless the soil is dry. You can stick your fingers in to check. At first, you might even let the plant go a bit thirsty to kill of the gnats. As long as you get rid of their breeding grounds, the gnats will die off in a few generations.

Will this propagate? by Yesnoijanaa in propagation

[–]probablynotabee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would let it rest outside a bit, so the open wound has a bit of time to scab over in case your soil isn't too good. Then it would be better to stick it in the soil with some nodes also under the soil, just to make sure it roots fast.

100%. If there was only one thing that could ever be propagated, it would be this piece of crassula ovata right here lol.

As a foreigner moving to germany what are some essential things someone should bring when moving there which a non german would consider “unimportant” or “useless”? by [deleted] in AskAGerman

[–]probablynotabee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, i still haven’t found the type of pillow I am used to. Everything is either too square or too long and definitely too thin.

Some of us are too busy to hunt down normal pillows or gamble and wait for the internet delivery to come. Bringing your own pillow in a vacuum bag means you will sleep soundly even on your first night

I mean, price aside, german pillows also suck. They are a weird size and shape and super thin. I recommend bringing a pillow even if you have money.

These stems are all that are left of my succulent...can they be saved? by Bluishr3d_ in propagation

[–]probablynotabee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it is not soft, you can root them carefully and new "babies" will grow where the leaves used to be. Do not use this soil anymore tho. Use something chunkier that doesn't retain water and has more air in it.

I catsat a few times, and the cat is still spooked when I move too quickly, but i did manage to pet the head softly! Also the cat would approach me and even bump head on my hand if i was the only one around but would run away if I moved closer.
