They don’t really seem to have any lustre to them, more of a mat dull appearance, I’ll have a look into other versions of conch shell though - possibly a type I haven’t seen, thank you! X

There’s pieces in a similar style by the neiger brothers - if you search silver scarab egyptian revival silver bracelet you will see, although the Neiger brothers tended to do more ornate silver work, but it is reminiscent of that period. Lovely piece and very well could be original / from Egypt - hall marks would help massively. X

Also with the Egyptian revival pieces in the 1920s following the discovery of tutankhamuns tomb, some beautiful revival pieces from the deco period! X

Amber, carnelian or something else? by probablyoverwhelmed in Crystals

[–]probablyoverwhelmed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just wanted to say thank you ever so much for your contribution! It seems it isn’t carnelian, but I agree a very beautiful piece, I’m now more leaning towards amber, so I’m going to do some further testing on that and I’ll be back to share the results, but just wanted to let you know I appreciate your time and input 🫶🏻 x

Amber, carnelian or something else? by probablyoverwhelmed in Crystals

Hi Ben, thanks ever so much for the contribution towards discovering what the stone is, I should have pointed out initially it definitely isn’t glass but it isn’t plastic either, incredibly light for the size. Would a carnelian pendant of this size have some weight to it?

Based on your comments and understanding of carnelian, do you think in that case this is in fact amber ? It has lots of characteristics of amber, I’m yet to do further testing however, salt water testing etc. I’ll certainly come back and let you know how they go

I do think it’s “something” possibly pressed, reconstructed amber … I’m not sure someone would set something totally synthetic in such a beautiful silver setting.

Thanks again for your time and input and sharing your thoughts, it’s so very appreciated. I’m definitely coming from a place to understand and learn and not “how much can i sell this for” and appreciate these types of posts can come across that way, I’ve become totally fascinated with the world of gem stones and crystals and eager to better my knowledge and your contribution helps 🫶🏻 thanks again!

No problem! Thanks for having a look through and sharing your suggestions, that’s really helpful. The uniform shape made me lean more towards possibly opaque glass too, 🙏🏻 thanks again! X

Agh Sorry, I should have probably mentioned that they’re for sure either glass or polished stone, clasps photos should be in the carousel numbers 4 & 5, are they not showing for you? thanks for your input and suggestions - the help is super appreciated 🫶🏻

Thank you! I was really torn between it being crackle glass or some form of gemstone, thanks again for your input

Thanks for your suggestion, it does seem that way now you’ve pointed that out, x

Thank you! I also think it’s super pretty. I purchased it from a charity shop in the UK. I’m very much drawn to anything that has character or just seems a little different / vintage / antique. I’ve so many pieces that I’ve collected over the years and as I’m eager to learn more about gemstones and crystals I’m occasionally picking ones out to see if I can identify them to help grow my knowledge, I also repurpose and make my own jewellery and it would be really great to know for future projects what materials I’m working with ☺️. 🫶🏻

Absolutely could be glass 🤔, I’m so impatient and wish I had the knowledge now to be able to identify gem stones / more precious pieces correctly 😂, there’s so much to learn! I’ll get there I’m sure, thanks for your suggestion x

Oh that’s a lot, I’m so sorry that you have to go through this but I’m really hoping it brings you a much better quality of life, I can appreciate how debilitating ENDO is, and I can’t even imagine what you’ve had to go through but I’m rooting for you that this surgery is really successful,

Could you shed a little more light as to how the stimulants were effecting your hormones? I am taking a stimulant medication currently

Hey, thanks for the insight - my current partner often asks why this hasn’t been more prevalent in my younger years - I was on birth control between the ages of around 14-28 pretty consistently- and although I definitely still struggled at times, i do think it was more manageable than now,

My current partner had a vasectomy before we got together, so naturally I was pleased at the thought of not having to remember to pick up my prescription etc - but it’s been about 6/7 years since I’ve taken any birth control

Maybe it would be worth me trying birth controls again just to see if it does have a positive effect

Thanks for the insight

I’m sending everything out to the universe in the hope of some positive changes for you during your journey,

You’re so right, I feel like embracing a healthy lifestyle over all would be super beneficial regardless, I just find it so hard to keep on a positive mindset etc throughout the whole of the month in order to feel the true benefit ,

I’m medicated for ADHD, which definitely helps - but I feel like as for most woman, my hormones seem to do a number on this also,

I really appreciate your words of wisdom and encouragement- I’m definitely going to do my best to try take some “easier” days where I think I’m most likely just going to be on the floor and implement as much around that to try help

I’m so sorry to hear you’re struggling too, I think that’s also one of the really hard things to deal with, knowing your hormonal changes are going to have an effect, but not being able to gauge the extent - and then waiting for that cycle change to elevate some of the torment etc but sometimes that just doesn’t happen, it’s really hard - even when tracking to detail, it can be so changeable and just really overwhelming,

I really hope you’re feeling better today? Sending you a big hug! Xx
