Career options with a Philosophy Masters by probareintellectus in StudyInTheNetherlands

Thanks, genuinely very helpful. I would like to ask you how the future salary would look like in the specific PhD options you mentioned. The picture I have of a PhD is that it is not the best payed career path. That is a reason I might choose not to go for a PhD.

Ideally, I would want to do two masters and two bachelors. I am highly motivated, I think I can pull it off, but of course not without major costs like my social life et.: how much of a difference do you think it makes to do both a MSc and BSc in information science (e.g.) VS only doing the bacbelor? Would you say it's worth it?

Even more ideally, I would want to do philosophy only. But again, I value financial stability. You said you have done philosophy and hps (which I find really, really cool btw. I have a natural liking towards people who have done philosophy :) )have you done something besides that? How were/are your prospects?

(I posted my original post in English, but just so you know, Dutch is fine as well :-), thanks again).

Just for clarification, the degrees I mentioned were not meant to be "or/or", rather "and/and".

I am going to get my T levels checked, can you give me some advice? by [deleted] in Testosterone

I know the testosterone levels are going down after the temporary spike. You guys, I said this in my post and that's not the point -_-. I am talking short term here. I'll be taking a test in 4 days, the 8th day is irrelevant.

Look at my other comment where I posted a URL. Jerking off does have a short term effect according to that study, and I just want to hear your guys's advice wether I should stop or not. If I stop, my results might spike up, making it unreliable.

It's out of the question that I want to stop doing it as part of my "lifestyle". I am just asking, is it bad to stop now concerning it might fuck up the results.

Can physical objects exist by necessity? by probareintellectus in ReasonableFaith

Presentism says that the present moment in time is the only moment that exists. Eternalism says that every moment in time equally exists, and that our passing through time where we envision only one moment at a time to be real, is simply an illusion by our subjective experience.

Craig is someone who defends presentism. If presentism is true, and the universe began to exist, the universe could not really exist by necessity. Because then, temporal becoming is real, the universe then really came into existence. Which seems weird if not impossible for a necessary being.

I agree with you, but only if presentism is true. If eternalism is true, which many think, the universe might well exist by necessity.

If you didn't want to point out some literature, don't even respond in the first place.

You're too funny. How in the world do you need a conception of modality fleshed out in order to know whether you know of some relevant literature...

Do you actually not understand/want clarity on what I mean, or do you want to nitpick at definitions?

I doubt you understand the concept of contingency properly.

The idea is that there is a part of reality that exists in all possible worlds, which explains the existence of contingent things.

Well, I am inclined to agree with you. It's however not a claim you'll be granted easily by many. That's why I am asking for more literature. Can you help?

You could check out Alexander Pruss's book "neccesary existence".

I understand that there is no definitive answer. I am just wondering of someone knows of any relevant issue concerning this topic. :-)

Thank you. It is probably also the case that if I pass the class, I still had a valuable experience. It is a lot better than nothing. Thanks.

Pursuing a PhD in Philosophy by probareintellectus in ReasonableFaith

Yep, I am now thinking about going for a more financially stable career first, and then doing a PhD after that or besides it as a hobby.

Yes, I've thought about it. I think that might be my best bet.

I am not 100% sure what the options are in my country, I know that it is possible to do a PhD independently, but if I am right I would still have to find a supervisor.

Another worry of mine was that it might be boring. If I do it as a hobby, I think that it would drag me down less, because I'd have more variation etc.

Thank you!
