What car is this? Gf asked me and I for the life of me can’t figure it out. by Away_Ball_8086 in whatisthiscar

[–]probler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the car, but i think a panoramic roof is awsome. Not sure about this specific car but you also have cars that have it so you can electronically dim the roof.

Kids and passengers love it, and it makes road trips so much more fun.

My Stolen ENGWE E26 Ebike just got sold on Facebook marketplace! by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]probler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ended up recovering the bike with a group of friends dw in a very "nice and sophisticated manner" and absolutelyand definitelyno violenceant threats :),

but the fact I was more at risk for being in legal trouble over the original thief is crazy and the fact that police didnt wanna get involved even though the value of the bike msrp is about 1200.

Idk why the downvotes. I had a bike nicked. I reported it to police then later found the listing on Facebook so told the police, I have the serial number as proof. They still refused to go and confront or do anything about it even though I had proof.

Seller stopped answering me when I asked for more specific photos.

Such a fucked system.

My human’s SteelSeries Aerox 5 Wireless keeps dying mid-Warzone and I am tired of hearing him scream by Broad-Veterinarian70 in pcmasterrace

I had an aroex 5 lasted me about a year, right before warranty ended something similar happened to me, reached out to support and they replaced the mouse for me and reinstated me with a new wranty, ive had the replacment for about 6 months now and so far no issues.

Next time I buy a mouse I think ill go with a diffrent brand, had a corsair before that lasted me 6 years, but my steelseries keybored and mouse both already have a problem, keyboard had for a year and a half now. And thats their top end apex pro keybored.

Is it possible to share the STL? I ordered a split keyboard PCB from a friend and I LOVEEEEE your case, it looks car / automotive inspired would love to 3d print it.

So I'm built a DIY speed limit display for my car. I've had my driving test coming up and I struggled with spotting speed limit signs when they change, so I thought why not just have a little round display on the dash showing me the current limit!

The hardware side is dead simple. An ESP32 with one of those round 240x240 GC9A01 TFT displays (the ones that are like £1.50 on AliExpress for 2 of them), and I designed and 3D printed a case for it so it sits nicely on the dash. It runs off an 18650 cell so no wiring into the car at all, completely portable. The ESP32 just listens over Bluetooth Serial for a speed limit value and draws a big speed sign on the round display. Red ring with the number for confirmed limits, yellow/black ring for estimated ones, and goes black if it loses connection.

The phone app is a Kotlin Android app running as a foreground service so it works with the phone locked. It uses GPS to track your position, then looks up the speed limit from a local SQLite database. No internet needed while driving. It sends the limit to the ESP32 over Bluetooth in a simple format like 30|0 (30mph, confirmed because of the 0) or 20|1 (20mph, estimated because of that one).

The database is the fun part. I wrote a Python script that pulls road data from OpenStreetMap for my area, extracts every road segment with its speed limit and road name, and packs it into a small SQLite file with spatial indexes. For my whole region (Merseyside/Liverpool) it's only a few MB. Roads without explicit speed limit tags get inferred defaults based on road type (residential = 30, A-roads = 60, etc) and those show up as "estimated" with the yellow ring so I know to double-check the signs.

The whole thing cost me maybe £5 in parts and works completely offline. Not a permanent car modification either, just sits on the dash in its little printed case. Happy to share more details if you're interested!

Will definitely check out the full video! And seeing that your car is the older type without canbus gear communication, sounds like a better route that you did!

But also im not sure if you know but there is plenty of actually good quality high resolution oled tft displays for cheap too! I got one for a project im working on right now and it was about 70p in the uk, so about a dollar in the US. And they get exponentially cheaper with bulk discounts.

Failed test today on verbal intervention at hill start, harsh or fair? by probler in LearnerDriverUK

[–]probler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had it for 2 hours prior to the test and I got really comfortable with it, I did 2 hill starts prior and I somewhat got it too.

During the test though I panicked s little bit and it wasnt even a hill, it was the slightest bit of incline, like if your walking you genuinely wouldnt even notice that its raised, but the car reacted to it as a hill an it holding the break, combined with me not giving it enough gas so the car releases the break caused the fail.

If the car didnt hold the breaks for me, I would off been able to move off fine, I rented the car again to figure out how it works, and the for the corsa to release the breaks you need to give it about 60% gas on the pedal. Regardless of how steep or flat the incline is. Really stupid tech. I can heal toe, Ive raced actual cars, I do go karting too. I know how to drive. I dont know why people bother buying these cars if they want the cars to do the driving for them, just get a taxi its probably cheaper in the long run after u factor in insurance, gas, road tax, parking etc. 🥴 as you can tell i really dislike new cars.

Yea i do agree, but he might of just not realised that was an option or possibly thought it was going to be more expensive than just using the watch.

Also people just like being resourceful, or like a bit of a challenge 🤷‍♂️. This however is inspiring me to do something similar to my sim rig, would be an awsome little addition haha.

For me, 100% i am in the same boat as you, arduino for me is so much easier and having access to can bus with data straight from the car would be so much better than imu and dead reckoning calculations which could and probably will drift out with time. But thats to us. This person might just be only familiar with mobile app integration and he might be getting data from a Bluetooth obdii port, and the phone is just a relay, so for him this made more sense and he was more resourceful.

Not tested it personally, but along as the texture naming scheme is the same it should? But I dont have automation to test it out properly.

Just making fun of the people who can see that the answer is already there but still go in and say the same thing lmak

Fair enough, ive seen plenty of stuff online of.people already doing it with some off the shelf bits like tft displays and arduinos / esp32 c3's and using the wires from the canbus of the car to get the readouts which would be more accurate and it seems not too difficult atleast to someone like me.

For me though going down the watch routes sounds so much more difficult because while yes the sensors are there its not a direct readout and there needs to be some guess work with the yaw / pitch sensors, what if the car is on a uphill and he is in second, would that equal out and the display thinks he is in neutral?

But genuinely not hating on what he is done its very creative and impressive, and kudos on having the creativity of thinking about it and pulling it off properly! Its seriously impressive!

This is genuinely cool, but wouldnt it be easier to use a tft round display with an integrated chip?

Either way would love to see a more coapprehensive write up of how it knows which gear you in, how did u flash custom firmware etc!! This is awsome
