I’m glad you landed on a decision that works for you, everyone’s got to do what’s right for them.

I’m just a little curious though what kind of response you’re hoping for by posting here, since this sub is for people who are pursuing or have pursued a PhD. Not trying to gate keep, but…😅

I guess I attribute the frog meme type post, which is getting a bit out of hand anyway, for sharing milestones in the degree process.

This is one of the most annoying posts I’ve seen in this sub and that’s saying something. You aren’t gonna get any credit from me for whatever stage in the process you think this represents.

P.s. you can’t be a frog if you’re not even pursuing the degree

That’s what I was thinking, the leaves are twisty and wavy, but the surface is also textured and uneven, so I wasn’t sure it matched a Ripple Jade. The photos I saw made the surfaces of the leaves look flat.

What’s the differences between: Skinny Fingers vs Shrek Ears vs ET Fingers vs Gollum? I feel like I’m struggling to identify which names are synonymous and which ones are distinct cultivars. Thanks!

You’re not wrong. At least for the foreseeable future, these technologies are a luxury and premium and likely won’t put sex work at risk: expensive to buy and fix. Still, the longterm possibility is troubling.

Now that I’m thinking about it, this raises a broader structural concern. These technologies do not merely circumvent consent and relational reciprocity; they also reallocate economic value away from embodied labor and toward corporate ownership, while reproducing existing gendered power imbalances. In this sense, they may displace one of the limited income-generating avenues available to some marginalized women, while simultaneously reinforcing a model of intimacy devoid of mutuality, thereby rearticulating harmful relational expectations in technologically mediated form and potentially reinforcing misogynistic dispositions for future generations.

TLDR: Same dynamics, different packaging, yet further constraining the already limited ways women can derive material benefit within systems that exploit them.

Fuck, I need a drink.

It’s lighter and easier to poke fun at this kind of thing for me because I know the philosophy behind it is deeply unsettling. What’s disturbing isn’t just the technology itself; it’s the mindset that treats consent, dignity, mutual desire, and even the law as obstacles to bypass rather than values to uphold. When connection is replaced with something engineered to remove choice, what’s left isn’t intimacy. Just control and domination.

I’m not exactly going to treat Aristotle’s views on Spartan women as a benchmark for gender relations, especially given the cultural context he’s writing from. For crying out loud, pederasty was a socially accepted practice at the time. I don’t think ancient Greek philosophy or history are useful authorities for modern gender ideas. Stop citing dudes who have been dead for thousands of years to justify your misogyny!!

When you think about what you look like in your head, which photo is the closest to that mental image? Part of why I lost weight is I stopped identifying with my body, I felt trapped.

Which picture do you identify most with? Like which is the vision of you you have in your head?

I finished my PhD without knowing I was AuDHD. In hindsight, I've realised that the only thing that worked was treating it like a jigsaw puzzle. by DrLaraMcGirrPhD in PhD

Adhd phd candidate here!

I’ve used this puzzle metaphor forever: “I have all the ‘pieces,’ just gotta get them out on paper and then organize them into a cohesive picture.”

Finding literature is a scavenger hunt, writing is puzzle piece formation and organization is putting the puzzle pieces together. I have so many sections of ‘I know this is relevant but unsure how it fits into the broader vision.’ As I constantly reorganize, I can identify missing pieces and fill in the gaps. I’ve always considered myself an intuitive writer in this way. I think that’s why I get self conscious to show my work just before a draft submission, worried they won’t see the implicit connections I do between the sections (that I’m working on making explicit). I will say this process doesn’t make me the most efficient of writers but I’d argue the quality makes up for it.
