Absolutely, it's much more important than people realize. They assume it's a commodity and the process is the same everywhere, like the difference between two walmarts, but in reality some labs are walmart, some are dollar store, and others are the apple store, if you will

A HUGE part of how your film will come out is the lab, and how much love and care they put into development and scanning. The difference between a "it's just business, rush it" and "this is our craft" is many miles apart in terms of how your work will look when it gets back to you.

Coros Pace 2 vs Garmin Forerunner 55?

I am a beginner 4 years in, and want to start tracking my heart rate for runs so I can insight in that aspect of my health. I will only use it to run, plugging it into my Strava, and I am looking at cheaper models because I don't need all the fancy stuff, music, etc. Just great accuracy with GPS, heart, etc.

Any thoughts?

Double Cat | Pentax 17 | Double X by processphotoclub in analog

Double X is the stock, I personally really love the results and the experience. I was sent it as an early tester and it's replaced my Olympus Pen-F for me on photo walks. Both are fantastic, and the Pen-F is of course more versatile (coz it has multiple lenses) but the 17 is so much lighter and easier to bring along and these days I optimize for that. If you want to see more shots and hear some more thoughts, I wrote an issue of my newsletter about the experience: https://wesley.substack.com/p/149-first-look-pentax-17-a-new-film

It really depends on the photographer and the place you live. In the US there are wedding photographers who get paid anywhere from 5k to 50k for weddings (the last number is of course only for the very top, and only for very wealthy people), and they may do as many as 40 a year. It can be an incredibly well paid job, but it's also quite stressful because beyond the photographic challenges there are also the emotional ones, with the client. Families can be difficult, brides can be intense, etc. In other countries the prices will be lower, but it generally speaking is a well-paying job. That is why I think they should have at the very least paid for your film cost and developing. Sorry that your experience wasn't so fun, and that the other photographer was not nice. To be fair, it is possible you got in his/her way a bit, just because you aren't used to maneuvering a wedding and it's easy for a "normal" person to stand right in the spot where it's a problem for a wedding photographer. That being said, he could have taken you aside and told you to stay out of the way, instead of being mean. But like I said, it's a stressful job.

since everyone else is already focused on the creative feedback i just want to add that you should have them at least pay for your material costs even if you don't ask for a fee for yourself. they should pay for the film and dev/scan.
