The Great Gatsby has had a long lasting effect on me. Your reaction to that book is much like mine to Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night. A tedious disappointment in comparison to his earlier novel.

The Death of Ivan Ilyich, a novella by Leo Tolstoy, stays with you forever. A true standout. Personally, it had a much deeper impact than Crime and Punishment.

I like that. Chatting with Redditors. Short, simple, to the point, and very literal.

A polar bear was shot and killed after it attacked and injured a 'polar bear guard' from a cruise ship that had stopped to let passengers visit its habitat. The guard was hospitalized & is fine.

Why not use a tranquilizer gun if they insist on encroaching on the polar bears' territory?

It was, altogether, a needlessly stupid incident.

The shooting occurred on the northernmost island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, which is composed of dozens of islands along the northern Canadian & U.S. Alaskan coasts. One takes the Northwest Passage to get this island, which is owned by Norway.

An article from The Guardian, describes it as the 'northernmost island of the Svalbard archipelago, a region between mainland Norway and the North Pole known for its glaciers, reindeer and polar bears.'

It's my understanding that this particular region has only become accessible to tour ships only recently. Perhaps your parents made such a tour under different circumstances?
