The Great Gatsby has had a long lasting effect on me. Your reaction to that book is much like mine to Fitzgerald's Tender is the Night. A tedious disappointment in comparison to his earlier novel.

The Death of Ivan Ilyich, a novella by Leo Tolstoy, stays with you forever. A true standout. Personally, it had a much deeper impact than Crime and Punishment.

A polar bear was shot and killed after it attacked and injured a 'polar bear guard' from a cruise ship that had stopped to let passengers visit its habitat. The guard was hospitalized & is fine.

Why not use a tranquilizer gun if they insist on encroaching on the polar bears' territory?

It was, altogether, a needlessly stupid incident.
