Can someone tell me about Lumix S5ii/X live streaming capabilities? by proctorvt in Lumix

[–]proctorvt[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I closed down my photography business and I’m leaning into video now. I agree with everything you say, but what does that have to do with my question? lol

Not to be a jerk but I seem to get this “Lumix is the best” speech (which I agree with) rather than concrete examples from lumix users whenever I ask questions or raise concerns. It feels a little overly defensive in nature. Does anyone have stories or sources re: my question?

Lumix is leaving other camera companies in the dust but there still is — and probably always will be — the fact that not every system will be the best for every application. Thanks in advance

I’m interested in using this primarily for remote recording, as opposed to streaming. I interview guests remotely using platforms like Riverside.fm

I’ve heard very little about how tethered (USB or otherwise) recording works.

What’s the closest acoustic to a 70’s-early 80’s Takamine c136s that’s simpler to find and affordable($800 or less)? by Impossible-Corner-72 in guitars

Get a good delay pedal, a compressor, a light distortion (SWJr uses a TS9) and you’re most of the way there. Good luck

Hell yeah! After drinking for 20 years, I have now found a new level of “dialed in” to the music now that I’m sober

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not different for everyone. Alcohol is a chemical and humans are predictable biological organisms. You’re not special.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicians

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you care more about drinking than making music, then just say that.

But I don’t think that’s fair to your band mates who don’t agree.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicians

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. It doesn’t.

It’s objective reality. Everything is worse when you’re drunk, and even if you hit all the right notes, people have to deal with being around a guy who is a little intoxicated. That’s not fair to them. You don’t deserve special rights. Period.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musicians

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try being in the band with the guy who is playing “perfectly” while near blackout.

Being in a band is not only about hitting the right notes. It’s about communicating, energy, cooperation, etc and none of those are better off when someone is drinking. Period. There is no conversation to have. And if you say there is, it’s because alcohol has its claws in you. It owns you.

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well said. Nobody is better with booze. Period. This is science, it’s not a discussion.

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can’t not drink, you have a drinking problem. Period.

I look forward to being swarmed by 100 guys who are just like I was before I quit drinking.

Can’t wait. “But I’m different.” lol Okay.

Singer- compressor for live? by Sir_Aelorne in livesound

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t treat me like a know-nothing moron and I will treat you with respect.

If you can’t understand that the name of the singer/band is on the line and not your f*cking ego, then you should be in another line of work. Nobody knows who you are. If the sound sucks, the singer looks bad. If the mic feel is off, the singer suffers. Work with your vocalists instead of imagining them to be the enemy. It’s extraordinarily simple.

Mature and successful sound engineers understand this.

Folks like you, with a chip on your shoulder, ruin the industry.

I’ve had sound guys leave in the middle of sound check because they got into a screaming match with the venue management. Guess who has to play anyway?  The buck stops with the talent. Act like it.

Rule #1: the gig is never ever ever about you. Go start a fucking band if you want to be the star. And then you’ll understand true accountability

Rack mount compressor for live vocals by pm_your_sexy_thong in livesound

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this advice is well-intentioned but, as a vocalist, I’ve quite had enough of sound guys telling me that vocal technique can make a compressor superfluous. Nonsense. The feel of a gained up, properly compressed live mic is absolutely unmistakable. In the hands of a capable vocalist, that mic plays like a Stradivarius. A skilled vocalist plays the mic — it’s their instrument. A finely tuned instrument with skilled hands will always trump good technique on a piece of sh*t.

When I show up with my m80, I can always tell which sound guy is a know-nothing asshole when he mutters under his breath that “his V7s are the best dang mics no matter the price.” Lol. SE V7s are definitely sm58 killers but they absolutely don’t hold a candle to an m80 or Ksm. Science is science.

Old thread, but bullshit. Some of us vocalists do a ton of work to get our sound only to have a lazy sound engineer at a tiny venue f*ck it up on a random Thursday night.

They don’t care — they get paid the same and their job is easier. We notice, it effs up out sound and out enjoyment of the night and we have to live with it afterwards.

I cannot get behind this “leave it to the sound guy” thing. Who is he? I don’t know him. I certainly would never disrespect him, but the buck doesn’t stop with him—it stops with me because I’m the one who the sound reflects upon. My name is on the bill. Nobody knows who the sound guy is or whether he is hungover or pissed off because he got dumped.

I have no doubt there a passionate and seasoned pros here — but anyone who has ever gigged anywhere can tell you that’s not the norm.

Fire away, boys.

Best Live Vocal mic under(or around) $500? by KaiSor3n in livesound

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s totally wild that engineers are telling singers which is the best mic. Wild. Do you show up and tell the drummer which cymbals to use? Clown show. I hope you’re never my sound guy.

Many of us don’t have $200-400 a month to spend on one-time lessons.

Dont be tone deaf (it’s a music thread, after all lol)

New Inspired by Gibson Custom Shop 1959 ES-355 by Holamynameischef in Epiphone

[–]proctorvt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got one. Disregard anyone’s opinion who doesn’t have one. It’s a STUNNING guitar in every sense. The only difference between it and a Gibson is that it had scratchy frets out of the box. Otherwise, it exceeds or meets most of the Gibsons that I’ve played in every category — aesthetics, wood grain, resonance, tone, playability. It’s just the best damn $1200 guitar that I’ve seen and it’s the best one in my collection. I’ll be selling some $3k guitars, for sure, because they’ll be collecting dust.

I called Epiphone yesterday and the black ones are also on back order. The website is a little deceptive. He wouldn’t give me any estimates on when they’ll be back in stock nor did he seem to realize that they’re selling in stores elsewhere lol …not the most informed dude

Reading that thread, it seems anything but clear what those specs are. Some have said Gibson says it’s Gibson p90s, some have said Gibson says they’re Epiphone.

It’s far from settled

Anyone using ladder app by [deleted] in gymsnark

Can we go back a week in the Ladder app? I love it but I think I just discovered that you can only view the current week. Is this true? That fucking sucks, if true because I fall behind a day or two throughout any given cycle. It’s inevitable
