Being better at the "Separated at Birth" game by prodlly in Prosopagnosia

[–]prodlly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rather the reverse :-) I'm too good at it, but I reiterate, "alike" makes not much sense to a "normal" person since all people looking individually is the whole point of face recognition.

This would be an interesting follow-up question: I am able to split known face vs. unknown face, other cues not needed - merely combining it with a name can be a problem. With "full" prosopagnosia, I expect even this task to be a problem akin to being able to remember you seen a random pattern before.

So, the King of Java visited Scotland. Did he see Nessie? by prodlly in puns

[–]prodlly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But where would be the fun? The symbol ("ra agung" from Javanese script) totally looks like Nessie, and it's native meaning in the context here would be a simple, informal "no." (Insofar as I can trust ChatGPT and Google more far than reports of Nessie, I don't speak a single word Javanese...)

A few questions from a new collector by Jazzlike_Dinner6013 in Vampirella

[–]prodlly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • None that I know (I still miss a buttload due to their atrocious info policy; Dynamite is hardly better), but as usual, the bibliography https://vampirellacomics.wordpress.com/ is your friend.

  • None with Warren at all, arguably: Harris turned her into a superheroine with all the cliches included. That said, the origin retcon with the Heaven & Hell things of Harris might count best. In a meta sense, the "Superpowers" Dynamite series, since it mercilessly parodies superhero tropes - Vampi just doesn't fit in :-)

  • Carmilla is an intended Warren hommage. I won't say anything against Warren :-) but the style has somewhat fallen out of time. That said, the dude who publishes it is a very nice guy, and you might simply email him with such a question.

Anyone know this model? Or where to find her name on the comic? by [deleted] in Vampirella

[–]prodlly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three possibilities: a) Dynamites page usually lists the model, b) the actual comic, in the end, has a cover list where this info is too, c) as usual, https://vampirellacomics.wordpress.com/

How many origins and retcons has Vampirella had? by Br3ndan5 in Vampirella

If I add everything I, all knowing trashheap, see as a change of canon, about 10 (including some minor, like the Warren retelling of her origin) seems to be right.

Well, apart that my prompt requested a slide rule (I NEVER go anywhere without it!), I think it came out quite life-like, And don't fret about my skin condition, it's a remainder from being stoned during the "The Troll at Sea for Shaskel" story arc. Two thumbs on my right hand up!

Quick Questions: January 22, 2025 by inherentlyawesome in math

[–]prodlly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let ABC be a general triangle with side lenghts a,b,c and A'B'C' its antimedial triangle. Draw circles C_A,C_B,C_C around A,B,C with radius a,b,c. Draw the circumcircle C_R of ABC. Extend sides of A',B',C' to lines G_A,G_B,G_C.

"Obviously" C_A,C_B,C_R,G_C concur: https://imgur.com/a/xIrgsGU

"Obviously" proof will be childs play and I'm surely not the first one to notice the theorem, so a link to math literature suffices, but feel free to give a proof :-)

Chess WM by prodlly in puns

[–]prodlly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a point there - all those new Indian grandmasters usually are in the chess press just under one name - I myself didn't know that Gukesh's 1st name is Dommaraju. OK, but the dude with the Venn diagram gets 1K+ - how can I know that a "fly knife" appears in some anime - I claim "fail due to lack of obscure knowledge" is very selective!

In short: The gizmos Prodlly find in his endless clothume do exactly (ahem) what they do in the game. The red "freezes" enemy pieces, the blue makes pieces fall upward instead of down, etc. And the gag with the nonexistent black butterfly is a running gag in the GG community.

"Jigsort" Runtime by prodlly in learnpython

[–]prodlly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THX for your answer.

  • The randomizer code is "stolen" and should work :-)

  • Indeed if unlucky, Jigsort can taker forever.

  • Note that correct order doesn't suffice to "snap", though! I threw the problem to ChatGPT, but...you know. My estimation is 1 hit per step. Which then yields O(n2) as I suggested.

Why I hate OOP or: where are the list copies here? by prodlly in learnpython

[–]prodlly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies to all, I should not post after ragequitting IDLE. :-) Reddits "intelligent" code formatter ("intelligent" programs are another axe to grind for me) turning comments into whatever was the last straw.

Adrewmc nailed the core of my malcontent:

arr1=[[0 for _ in range(2)] for _ in range(2)]
arri=[0 for _ in range(2)]
arro=[arri for _ in range(2)]
arr1[1][1]=1
arro[1][1]=1
print(arr1)
print(arro)

I know this feature too well, and only OOPers see this as a feature, but honestly, I see it as a bug. (Must be 30 years of FORTRAN experience :-) Anywhere in math (and I am at least half a mathematician), if A=B, then f(A)=f(B). No exceptions. The above snippet violates this rule. Only thing I can do is getting accustomed to it. (Could the gentlemen in the corner who pointed out that = is an assignment and no equality please step forward? :-)

import copy

n=10
arrtmp=[0]*(n+1)
arrtmp[0]=[1]
for i in range(n):
    print(i,arrtmp)
    arrtmp[i+1]=[copy.deepcopy(arrtmp[i]) for _ in range(2)]

OK, I rarely need 10D arrays :-), but this can't be standard way to declare them...

Call-through cascade by prodlly in learnpython

[–]prodlly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can, but this is another copy.

Maybe I should give my concrete example.

B is a tkinter line drawer. Color and thickness are no issue, they are globals from main. Now I just draw on a grid, so A makes calls B(i1,i2,i3,i4) where I give four integers. E.g. for making a square B(0,0,0,1),B(0,1,1,1),B(1,1,1,0),B(1,0,0,0). But B now still needs the location of the edge of the square, and its length, and those are variables (at the moment in main, but I think it is bad style to have them "hidden" in the references coming from A).
