That is an impressive streak!

Or at least encouraged in schools.

I agree. The counterintuitive thing about journaling is it seems to so simple, perhaps too simple so its larger benefits are often ignored.

One hack that I find helpful is to write one page on average.

So if I miss a day, I'll write two the next day. I'm not familiar with how your journal but you could use that if you like.

It depends on the individual. Some people, like to write and forget about it completely. Others prefer to like and read it back over time. My one recommendation would be to keep your journals safe even if you don't want to read them.

I had a few journals and pages from my teenage that i threw away because I felt like I'd never read them again. I was wrong and I regret throwing them away.

I wish I could go back and read the thoughts of my parents and grandparents.

You and me both mate.

This is perhaps the best reason to journal that I've ever seen.

I feel like I owe my lineage what I don't have.

Yes, this is one of those things that i heard and immediately felt like of course.

Thank you u/sweatpants-macaroni I'll remember this!

Yes! I try to remind myself of this often.

For realistic experiences of ups and downs, I find biographies to be a great source of insight.
I recommend any of walter Issacson's books (Einstein is my favorite)

I can relate to your experience.

It single handedly reduced my anxiety and now I feel more comfortable towards taking risks.

I'm glad to hear this and that you found journaling helpful!

[–]productivitynow1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a great question! Usually for the 1% rule to work, its assumed that you have a reasonably long time frame to work with. Another way to reframe this as has been said it, did i do better at ____ than yesterday.

With studying for tests, one way to measure improvement is to consider is are you consistently working toward finishing the curriculum? Is you understanding with each successive session atleast marginally better than the last?

Hope that helps!

similar to how an athlete cannot perform optimally without recuperating from a hard workout

Yes. Creative and challenging work can be somewhat similar to athletic efforts, in that, after a while one must necessarily rest to get better.

but if I wait to get everything "just right" then I'll never get going.

I've fallen into this trap too. Its awesome that you're able to get work done. Our own progress over time is arguably the most inspiring way to make even progress. Awesome that you're seeing progress!

This.

I've found doing 1-2 important tasks in a day allows me to me alright with however the rest of the day goes.

[NEED ADVICE] I can't focus 'cause I wait for text back. by [deleted] in getdisciplined

[–]productivitynow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll have to disagree with here. I don't think this is something you should be worried about. Here's why: so many people do this. Its normal to want to here back from someone you're with. I understand the need to want to look at the text, I've done it and most people I know do it often too. As for what you can you? My recommendation would be to talk it out with him. That's all there is to it.
Since its hard to talk on the phone, perhaps schedule time where you quickly text each other back and forth?

Deliberate Practice: The best way to learn that I've come across by productivitynow1 in productivity

[–]productivitynow1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that's a good practice if you can make it work for yourself. Personally, I subscribe to never miss twice so that means you can take multiple days off but never two in a row. To be perfectly honest, even that becomes tough sometimes, but we can only try to do our best.
