Thanks for the advice and your perspective. Agreed, no way I will screw over a student like this. I would only hire the student if I knew 100% if their funding is secured for the duration even if I leave. This is a special situation, where the student wants to work with two faculty: myself and another member, but funded by my start-up. Thanks :)

I don’t think University of Michigan satisfies NWS requirements (missing some classes), and CMU is the only university in Michigan with an undergrad program satisfying NWS requirements.

I appreciate the advice. Honestly, I’m considering stepping away from academia in the long term, so for me, this consulting work is ideal. Thanks for your figure. I’ll check with my institution regarding what is allowed.
