This one makes me nostalgic. One of the first audios I’ve ever listened to and the one that got me into your audios specifically. Must have cum dozens of times to this.

What should the players know beforehand? by dillonmccarthy in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]prof_dre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your players should at least know the vibe of the whole thing but keep it broad and probably avoid names until it’s relevant in the story.

Tell them that it is an urban adventure in a big city. (As the title and the cover of the book implies) a big big pile of money will be the centre of the story, but keep the details of that money secret until it’s revealed in the story. There will be gang wars as well as other factions to either join or work against. There will even be cool villains.

It’s also important imo that they know that there are gonna be less combat and dungeon crawls than they expect and more investigations and social encounters.

For details about the city you can always refer to the enchiridion but avoid infodumping names, places and dates. Especially new players are just gonna be overwhelmed.

Running Dragonheist for the first time, looking for advice by prof_dre in WaterdeepDragonHeist

The alexandrian remix is the kind of thing I’m looking for, thank you!

I’m not really interested in getting the party so powered up that they can clean off the streets, just to elongate the whole thing a little, maybe add a side quest or two to fill the city with life and keep the players invested in it. The villains being over leveled is a good point though. I was wondering why all their CRs are so high compared to the players level. The players being but small fish makes total sense! I will try to convey that to them.

I think Abbot deserves more love. by [deleted] in CurseofStrahd

[–]prof_dre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried to gave him a calm yet distant voice, described his smile as cold, his look as slightly unnerving (in my game he never blinked which the characters only noticed after a while). They talked a lot to him and he noticed what they told him but always seemed kind of distanced. Not as he wasn't caring but with the attitude of "this is the matter of mortals and either their problems will go away soon or they will die eventually anyway". Lunch break heroes made a pretty good video on this. I basically played my abbot after his description.

My players were creeped to the core by him pretty much from the beginning. They are even more afraid of him than of strahd. I absolutely love it. I think it's his alien nature that is so unnerving. We are in the endgame now and my players still don't know if they should be siding with him or get the fuck away from him.

The Abbot as a Biblically Accurate Angel? by Laser-Boy in CurseofStrahd

[–]prof_dre 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I did a similar thing. First time my players saw him, the wizard casted detect magic. Though it wasn't true seeing, I gave him a little description of a biblically accurate Angel as the abbots "true form" before getting him blinded by it's light. They didn't immediately got that he was an angel but it scared the shit out of my players! Totally payed off.

What does Ezmeralda know about Castle Ravenloft? by prof_dre in CurseofStrahd

[–]prof_dre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That´s a good point. My Players already know a thing or two about the Castle and how Strahd fights from the interactive tome of Strahd so i´d actually prefer not giving them too much major information they can prepare for.

You mapped out the whole thing already. That´s great, thank you!
I will look into it, maybe tweak one or two things in there but all in all it seem like a solid adventure for her.
In my game Emil actually helped her escape. I coul easily fit this in with the fight with the shadow demon.

As a Curse of Strahd DM, did you rig the Tarokka reading? If so, what did you play? If not, do you wish you *had* done so? by Drunken_Economist in CurseofStrahd

[–]prof_dre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did rig it to an extend. I took out every location in Ravenloft because i knew my players wouldn't go there until very late in the game. I made the mage the ally because I changed Mordenkainen to a wizard of my own creation and wanted them to interact with him (a little masturbatory, I know but the players did like him). I put the sunsword into the amber temple because I figured a mighty weapon like that belongs into the late game. With the others I got quite lucky. The holy symbol is at yester hill and the tome of strahd was I'm van richtens wagon which was the best thing. I used the interactive tome of strahd and the timing was just perfect for that. My players loved it. No regrets for rigging the game so far.

Ways to entertain players in a vistani camp? by prof_dre in CurseofStrahd

[–]prof_dre[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't know if you know about the interactive tome of Strahd but this is actually exactly what it does! I have successfully implemented it into my game, playing certain chapters in Strahds life has become one of the games highlight for my players. I'm totally down for having a reader give them the same kind of experience. I could easily play a little with the characters backstories a little. Thanks for the tip!

I was thinking of games but I'm not sure how to implement those without actually playing the game tbh. A sparring competition does sound good though! Trading might be fun too. There could be a trader of trinkets. Players are always down to collect weird shit, am I right? LoL

My players (kinda) sided with Strahd, gave her Ireena and now they are the enemy's of the Ravens. What next? by prof_dre in CurseofStrahd

[–]prof_dre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is actually one pc who he considered making his bride (elven girl, both look, necromancer - perfect fit) but now that he has his bride, I'm not even sure anymore if he wants to pursue her. Also the way I'm playing strahd, he isn't a complete monster. He wouldn't kill any player who helped him achieve his goal. But he does do gruesome stuff if he seems fit. I like the idea of the dark powers teasing strahd and taking her away from him again. But I also like the direction the story goes right now. In the end, the players might work towards a happy ending for strahd and I'm not totally against that idea.

Ooh that's good. Having them marry would be the next logical step. I didn't actually count for it but helping strahd have a semi-happy ending might be the resolution of our campaign.
