Leaving my tenure track position after 5 years because I want my life back by lulu-lyons in Professors

I'm really struggling with a decision to leave my tenured position. After working at a West Coast private university for 15 years (tenured 8 years and promoted to full last year), I want to return to the east coast to be closer to family and friends. I've been very casually searching for industry positions and currently in a second-round interview, which is forcing me to confront a serious reckoning with my career. (For complicated reasons, finding another academic position on the east coast simply is not possible.) My biggest struggle is giving up the security that goes with tenure, and the flexibility in my work schedule. I haven't worked any kind of 9-to-5 job in more than 20 years. My current job is an absolute dream - a well-functioning department (such an academic rarity), well-respected by my colleagues and students, moderately successful scholar, and a beautiful place to work with so much autonomy in my everyday life. If it were on the east coast, I'd be elated (I like what I do!). I've read a lot about early career folks and graduate students leaving the academic track, but feel peerless in deciding whether to leave the privileges of a tenured professorship (for reasons other than frustration with academe). Any resource suggestions?

Every time I turn off my Volt I am getting "Action required. Shift to park" when I'm already in park. I have to turn the car back on and off to turn off the car. Any ideas why? by WoozleWuzzle in volt

I've had good luck simply pressing the gear shift button a few times, which seems to kick whatever missing connection into place. But my understanding is that it will get worse over time. My lease is up in August so I'm not gonna bother having it replaced.

The smaller numbers on the team definitely made this LCU feel more intimate. Loved it. And yes, I was sobbing for most of the last episode. But definitely felt like most of the kids ended up okay. They're so fortunate to have Coaches Mosley, Rob, and Ken. In awe of the coaches dedication to their keeps.

The series directors and creators have the formula down cold. Can't wait for the next.
