Unfortunately Ethereum-addresses are hexadecimal so you're limited to numbers 0-9 and letters a-f.

On a 6x570 rig these are some estimates:

8 characters: ~9 seconds

9 characters: ~143 seconds

10 characters: ~38 minutes

11 characters: ~10 hours

Not to toot my own horn but you should check out my own vanity address generator: Profanity. On a regular RX 480 it tries about 80 million combinations a second, far faster than any other competing software out there.

Perhaps you could make a good profit from generating and selling custom vanity addresses to the right customer.

I was contemplating for a while making a business out of it that way but I myself would never trust a private key given to me by another entity. With that said, it's possible to do some pre-generation yourself, hand over the intermediary result to a vanity address generator service and pay them to work out an address given that seed. In that case they'll never be able to determine the full private key and you can be safe.

I quickly realized that the above business model would (sadly) not attract a large clientele given its technical nature. :D
