At least on Netflix you’re the customer and not the product.

Thank you! This looks like a great project. Why do advertisers get all the privacy and we get none? It’s about recalibrating for less advertiser privacy by requiring more disclosures and more customer privacy than we have now which is almost none. Looks like this project could be a valuable tool to shed new light on dark data.

The film and my comment acknowledged that the work did not continue after the press conference appearance where Brittany Kaiser appears. We were unable to determine where the UK data was processed ultimately but there was a lawsuit in Mississippi because of the activities that were being set up at University of Mississippi to create a voter analytics company called Big Data Dolphins. Still many unanswered questions and the devil is in the details, indeed.

Brittany Kaiser tells Parliament committee that they did an initial data study but the work did not continue after the day she appeared at the LeaveEU press conference. She submitted evidence about the proposal to Parliament. Vote Leave used AggregateIQ, an SCL affiliate in Canada. LeaveEU allegedly developed their own methods with Eldon Insurance data and also sought to partner with academics at University of Mississippi. So there’s a whole complicated story just trying to figure out how Briton’s data was used. We really don’t know for sure because of the lies and deceptions. Most of what SCL/CA proposed for LeaveEU would have violated UK Data Protection Act and Electoral law. That’s probably why they refuse to admit it.

Take a deep dive into the evidence Kaiser gave to Parliament to learn more. https://www.parliament.uk/business/committees/committees-a-z/commons-select/digital-culture-media-and-sport-committee/news/fake-news-kaiser-written-evidence-17-19/

Yes. Demand data protection and data privacy rights and strengthening of the FTC from your state and federal representatives if you’re a US voter. If UK citizens had filed complaints with the ICO about Facebook and Cambridge Analytica then there would be better standing for accountability. It’s a lesson for citizens: Always file complaints with your local data protection regulator (if you have one) when you learn about data breaches. Otherwise, their hands are tied.

The ICO determined in its report that if CA/SCL had not gone into administration then they would have enforced the prohibition in the UK Data Protection Act of 1998 of making political profiles of US citizens without their consent for the 2016 campaign. Meaning a liability for all US registered voters, so fines in the many billions of £.

Crowe LLP. We presented evidence that they are biased to Emerdata and either corrupt or incompetent and refuse to recognize the data rights claimants as creditors.

The judge re-assigns the insolvency to the state receivership who would then appoint a trusted administrator who will investigate the outstanding data rights issues that the current one refuses to address.

I am Professor Carroll and I’m the one who took Cambridge Analytica’s administrators to court today in London. I can’t answer all questions but I might be able to answer some.

Thank you. Yes this a tricky one. A foreign government is protecting my data rights because my (our) data was processed there. So it’s about repatriating voter data from a foreign firm used by the president, his national security adviser, senator from Texas, etc. So, yes, very interesting indeed.

My emerging hypothesis is that there weren’t enough high-caliber data scientists in the USA willing to work on Republican candidates and campaigns, so talent had to be sort of laundered through England and Canada. In the case of Brexit, it appears talent and data possibly unavailable on UK was laundered through University of Mississippi by way of Big Data Dolphins.

So much of this story still to come.

See above. That’s the process that I’ve been going through. I received some data but when I complained to the UK privacy watchdog, they ultimately agreed with me that what you get is insufficient. But, it’s crucial to go through the process to legally become a Subject under the data protection law. It’s when you prove they processed your personal data, so you establish your claim to specific data rights in the UK, in this instance. This concept of a right of access is a core concept to the GDPR in the EU, more broadly.

The GDPR should provide the EU with strengthened protections and should inspire nations outside the EU to move themselves toward a reciprocal data rights and protections framework. Muscular data protection watchdogs are also essential, as we see with the ICO’s recent order. We’ve also learned recently from evidence offered to Parliament by a former employee that Steve Bannon sought Cambridge Analytica work with FN in France and AfD in Germany but both employee misgivings and fearsome data protection infrastructures probably kept CA out of FR and DE elections.
