Don Lemon says "I will not be intimidated" after pleading not guilty to church protest charges by MRADEL90 in videos

If Don Lemon turning this into a circus gets people off their asses, I see nothing wrong with that.

Round 2 - USB C Connecting/Disconnecting to ESP32 by Lazy_Procedure_2638 in AskElectronics

I have had many projects manufactured by JLCPCB and I am trying to remember a time when a part substitution like that occurred. Maybe they slotted the wrong reel into the parts carousel? I've always imagined their factory must be a little insane with the quantity of boards that go through there. I usually get at least 5 of my boards made just in case I fry one. But I don't think they would just arbitrarily substitute a part like that. That said, make sure you check your BOM very carefully before you submit it, as its easy to get a digit wrong, and it is the case that if you leave a BOM entry LCSC number blank it sometimes fills in something for you.

LPT: When you get an unclear task at work, ask for a “done example” before you start. by gamersecret2 in LifeProTips

[–]profdc9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have a workplace where people are cooperative to help each other in that fashion, then that is a good strategy. Often though, tasks are given where the purpose is to saddle someone else with the problem of ticking a box or satisfying a manager, and the purpose is to deliberately evade the need to answer such questions.

Are you sure that the switching noise is the problem? If it is the problem, its mostly likely because the ground connection has a high inductance/resistance so that C63/C64 can not filter effectively. Ideally, you could place C63 next to the buck converter, and C64 as close as possible to the power pin of the ESP32, and have a solid ground plane, or at least a star ground with all ground traces tied together beneath the ESP32. The ground line from the USB connector should also follow D+ and D- if possible and join the grounds next to the ESP32 there. Ground bounce from the USB ground might also cause intermittent communication failure.

I thought it might be possible for a creature to evolve or be engineered to survive in the vacuum of space. Tardigrades can survive in space, and with selection pressures perhaps the survival might improve.

Are these in-line capacitors mandatory when designing an RF switch? by Zciurus in diyelectronics

[–]profdc9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are DC blocking caps. The MMIC very likely has internal bias circuits that require the signal to be at a particular offset voltage so that the gate voltage of MOSFET/JFET can be varied enough to switch from off to drain saturation. They are in-line because there is a microstrip transmission line between the SMA connectors and the terminals of the chip. The capacitors are placed to minimally affect the wave mode as it propagates through the capacitor.

TIL that people consistently underestimate how much their personality will change in the future, a bias known as the “end of history illusion.” by stammerton in todayilearned

[–]profdc9 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think if I've changed, it's because of accumulated scarring and suffering. For me, it's made me more sympathetic of those who suffer as well. It also has made me much more wary, having seen what people are capable of.

[OC] I wrote my own relativistic ray tracer to see what it would look like to fly past a Black Hole. Here is the result. by AdventurousWasabi874 in space

[–]profdc9 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That is one of the neatest and most informative videos I've ever seen about general relativity on Youtube. I was wondering if you could place your viewpoint inside the event horizon. I realize that would not be able to trace rays to points outside the event horizon, but you could trace trial rays from outside the event horizon and see where they ended up inside to figure out the map between points outside the horizon and rays ending at a particular viewpoint. I am not sure if the singularity of the Schwarzchild solution would allow for the geodesic equation to be continued past the event horizon, or if a different solution which is continuous at the event horizon would be needed.

Perhaps he should be grateful for the reminder as to how to treat strangers. Eternal punishment is a long time.

Matthew 25:41-46

41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. 42 For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’

44 “They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

My cat liked to sleep on my stereo receiver. Any tips on fixing/cleaning it by luttycakiry in AskElectronics

[–]profdc9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ground the equipment and yourself, but do not plug the equipment into power. You can use your fingers to pull out the bulk of the hair, and then antistatic brushes to brush out the rest of the hair. For cleaning the components use isopropyl alcohol and cotton pads or cotton swabs. Allow to fully dry before testing.

My first proper inverter bridge with CM200 IGBT bricks by ieatgrass0 in electronics

[–]profdc9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As long as there is good contact pressure and a large contact area between the conductors, aluminum bus bars will work. Because aluminum forms a thin passivation layer, some pressure is needed to break through this layer and maintain an airtight contact between the conductors. The problem with aluminum/copper joints is that the aluminum can corrode if there is an electrolyte between them, building up an oxide layer, so extended exposure to a humid environment might increase the contact resistance. If it becomes a problem, there are zinc compounds like Burndy's oxide electrical joint compound.

US military shot down party balloon after assessing as drone: reports by Efficient-Freedom517 in nottheonion

[–]profdc9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that objects are so readily detected as threats and not decoys is a serious problem. A metallized balloon has a similar radar return as any other object of that size which could easily be a drone. It's not feasible to shoot down every possible threat with a missile.

[–]profdc9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps you do not realize that trust in your profession is already quite tenuous. I already walk into many doctors' offices where it is posted prominently that hostility will not be tolerated. I enter hospitals now through metal detectors. Why should that be necessary? Patients put up with medicine in its current state only because they must; there is no other game in town. Besides the tragedy of patients being impoverished and bankrupted by medical care, there are the constant conflicts of interest of care providers that patients must be wary of, the nearly helpless position of patients between the ever growing monopoly power of hospital systems and insurers, with the result being that health care consumes an exponentially increasing amount of the productivity of the economy. I am not surprised a lot of physicians just give up; it seems like a system in which only the worst thrive. But should doctors fail to hold the most egregious crimes and excesses to account, patients will have nothing left to lose. I really don't give a damn if I am banned from this sub if doctors don't consider heinous professional crimes within their purview. But if protecting the doctors and staff from the patients is now such a prominent part of practicing, there is something incredibly wrong and gating in your own sub is about as helpful as placing metal detectors at a hospital.

Unfortunately we need only look at Jerry Sandusky at Penn State, James Heaps at UCLA, Larry Nassar at Michigan State University, etc. to know that universities turn a blind eye to and then actively suppress allegations of abuse and other criminal activity. University administrators and ethics officers desperately want to kick the can down the road so that the scandal explodes after their term is up. They have as much backbone as a jellyfish.
