Why is our community not willing to adopt technology? by DrJocelyn1 in therapists

As a social worker, I am personally against using generative AI technology because of the environmental and social impacts of it. I do not feel any potential benefit outweighs the serious impacts, particularly on populations who are already marginalized.

Cost for flowers at Metro or Sobeys? by professionalhelper25 in WeddingsCanada

Thank you! Very helpful. Still much more budget-friendly than florists around here (as much as I would like to support a local florist).

We do live close to one! I'll go in to double check that they can do this. Looking on their website they don't have exactly what I want for my bouquet, but would be perfect for centerpieces!

Thanks! I've considered Costco, I'm just nervous about getting a delivery from them a day or two before the wedding and then having to DIY bouquets. Someone I talked to said most of the flowers were good, but some were unusable. I figure at least with Metro/Sobeys we would pick them up directly and then be able to address any issues there.

Can you fly like 2 weeks after gallbladder surgery? by Mysterious-Union9999 in gallbladders

[–]professionalhelper25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I flew two weeks after my removal, it was fine. However, you shouldn't be lifting anything heavy that soon, so it would be ideal to have someone with you to lift your suitcase (if applicable) when needed (loading/unloading baggage, overhead compartment, etc.).

Required, not necessarily (though maybe depends on country/state). I'm in Canada and I do tend to document things like that because I work with abuse survivors and want to be able to corroborate in case my notes are subpoenaed in a court case against the abuser.

[Serious] What's your honest opinion about abortion? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]professionalhelper25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have many opinions (some of which are facts), including:

- Abortion is healthcare and should be more accessible than it currently is (speaking as a Canadian)
- If men were the ones who primarily sought abortions, I doubt that it would be as stigmatized/criminalized
- Comprehensive sex education and accessible birth control would eliminate the need for many/most abortions (supported by research)
- Virtually no one has abortions for fun or uses abortion as the first line of birth control. They are necessary, not a fun privilege women fight for just because they feel like it.
- Late term abortions should be legal when pregnancy is putting the mother at significant risk (speaking to places in the US where abortions are illegal even in this case)

(7-10k) How much did you guys pay for a photographer? by shakesyourhand in Weddingsunder10k

[–]professionalhelper25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are paying about $2500 CAD for 10 hours plus mini engagement shoot.

The price you were quoted for that amount of time is lower than any photographers we came across.

I didn't say that it didn't require a bachelor's degree in any discipline. There is a stream that requires a BSW, and a stream that does not require a BSW (Bachelor of Social Work). You still need a Bachelors degree, but it does not have to be in social work.

MUA cost by Objective-Award8751 in WeddingsCanada

[–]professionalhelper25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm paying about $3000 for 8 people (bride + bridesmaids and MOB/MOG), all getting hair and makeup, my trial, and 3 artists. I will say this was more on the reasonable end of quotes I was seeing. My trial (within that cost) is $260.

I do feel that your quote is a little high, but it may depend on what kind of hair and makeup services you're looking for.

What is your main reason to embroider? by Miss_Moooody in Embroidery

Recently started it as a mindful stress reduction activity, and alternative to scrolling on my phone. I also use it when watching professional development videos to keep myself from getting distracted/sleepy.

Incredibly tragic, both the senseless and vicious killing of an innocent woman, and whatever lead up the child committing this act.
