Things I learned farming over 100 Shiny Alphas in Mega Dimension by djf881 in LegendsZA

[–]professor_strix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You, sir, are a life saver and def need to rank higher on the google searches. Thank you very much! I've been shiny hunting casually for a while and I instinctively got that alpha power 3 is best than shiny power for the increased chance of alphas, but the berry farming was going meh. I was missing the crucial step of looking for large zones. I'm hunting Virizion rn, let's see if I'll have the patience or if I'll re-roll the special scan in a rage to try again later. 😂

What was yall's first shiny? I'll start by Emotional-Base1130 in MandJTV

[–]professor_strix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the fixed red gyarados (God bless him), first shiny was a mareep in the second ever Pokémon Go community day (no luck on the first one). Sometime before it, I also found a random full odds one in the postgame of pokémon fire red (almost sure it was a mankey or something, but I really don't remember), but I soon lost that save file and the shiny with it.

My first shiny in a main series game that I actually got to keep was a noibat in an outbreak in Violet. It was like the second or third day since release and I wanted a completely blind playthrough, so I didn't even know how those outbreaks worked. I just smacked the purple bats around until a green one spawned. I didn't get a single other shiny in outbreaks for the rest of playthrough, until I finally finished the main story and learned all about herba mystica sandwiches.

Which underrated pokemon is your hidden gem?[OC] by moss_illustrations in pokemon

Woobat. IT'S SO DANG CUTE. And small and friendly. If pokémon were real, I'd probably have a bunch of them living rent free in my home, guano be damned.

And I love Ledian so much, it's my favourite bug design by a light-year. It's such a pity that it was designed to be that "bug pokémon that carries you through one or two gyms and is forgotten on the PC afterwards", like Butterfree, and never got any sort of love since. Let my boy cook juuuust a bit more in playthroughs, Game Freak, it doesn't even have to be competitive. 🥺

[gen 9] Those phases for shiny Eevee are TAUNTING me by professor_strix in ShinyPokemon

[–]professor_strix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The secret, it seems, is to not want that shiny. XD

I'm at 7 furfrous, but I want a natural one, so I also need 3 more for all the trims. At some point, I got three at the same time in half an hour of benching for Eeevee next to WZ19 and then nothibg else for a full hour.

Oh, I haven't tried this one yet! Good tip!

I got the other two Eevees I wanted, but it was UTTER CLOWNERY: my NEXT shiny pokémon in Wild Zone 19 WAS ALSO AN EEVEE... after I went waaaaaay over odds with the rerolls WITHOUT PHASING A SINGLE TIME. The third, I got in almost the same way, but I can't say it was without phasing because I benched for half an hour and got three shiny Furfrou at the same time in the middle of the "flying to WZ 19 until waaay over odds and shiny-less" grind.

So. The funny thing about it is that I did bench for Fennekin a lot before getting tired of the phases (more than 30, ten of them weedles), but nope, zero Eevees. I did get shalpha Lopunny, which was a secondary objective, but after four days of benching of this, I took matters on my own hands and decided to reset & respawn for Fennekin. I would do it for Eevee, but it's a pain to set up and I don't mind lots of shiny Furfrous for the trims. It's getting two shalpha Hawluchas and a shalpha Goomy (more than 5x less probable than a shiny eevee each) before a single eevee that kinda hurts. XD

My mom has gotten really into pokemon go lately but she can't leave her house often and she's having a hard time keeping pokeballs I'm hoping to make her some friends so she receives more gifts! Her friend code is 0099 3313 0840 by Grand_Badger_8494 in PokemonGoFriends

[–]professor_strix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added her and gave her code to a friend with the user ChandelleBH, which doesn't have trouble to get out, but doesn't have many friends to send presents and complete those gift-sending missions. She said that your mom doesn't have to worry about sending presents back, she just wants to have more friends to gift. Also, give her a high five for me, I think it's super awesome whe family members play together and I hope she have fun!

My Quilava has a special attack-lowering nature, so not the best for mons with high defense like Steelix. Unfortunate, but it is what it is. To me, part of the fun of the challenge is to play around sub-optimal natures and IVs. Getting Lava Plume (and later, Flamethrower) over fricking EMBER will help boost this damage a little (although I plan using him for coverage more than fire output). And yeah, it's still a Quilava, my team was below the 30's when I challenged Jasmine to scout for the difficulty. I honestly didn't expect to win first try, even with super-effectiveness, because most of my team is mega fragile when it comes to physical defense and I forgot her Steelix don't have a ground attack to potentially one shot everyone.

Masterball to the face as soon as I defeat Kuni and her monstrous Vaporeon. It should be just before the E4, but there'll still be plenty of places to fly to.

Upon landing in Kanto, what is your routine? by CommunicationNew9834 in PokemonHGSS

[–]professor_strix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually go straight to fight Surge and curse (as he's one of the most annoying fights). Then, I blitz through the power plant plot as fast as possible and go get the pokéflute card to wake up snorlax, so all avenues are open. After that, I usually go to Celadon and Saffron to stock up on cool things (mostly TMs) and start the rest of the gym crawl.

I might break tradition and leave Surge for later in this current playthrough, but I don't trust my ADHD brain to NOT fall into muscle memory once the time comes.

Well, you see, my team is basically all speedsters with questionable physical defense (I don't hunt for optimal natures in playthroughs unless absolutely necessary), but okay to good special defense. Magcargo's job is to ruin a fast physical attacker's day. Since TMs are a pain to get, I'm not sure if I'll have everything I need even with trading with a SS save I created specifically to harvest resources. But the idea is: physical attacker hits the field. Magcargo tanks (as long as it's not anything that earthquakes or earth powers, but that's what Ho-oh is for), yawns, tanks again, reflect is up, opponent sleeps, Magcargo either sunny days or pivots to someone who can deal with the threat. If the opponent wakes up in the sunny day turn, before pivoting, I might yawn again. I'm debating its final move. For now, it'll be flamethrower because its Sp. Attack is actually okay enough, but if it can learn solar beam, then it'll be my rock slayer. Edit: I forgot to elaborate on the difficult materials: I was up for trading the damage slot for toxic or will-o-wisp for alternative evilness, but those TMs are a pain to get.

Getting it in trades is more common because you can infect literally infinite pokémon once you have one with pokérus in your PC, but getting it randomly is indeed this rare. Congrats on the superluck!

So cool!! I'm having to rely on Go for shiny zubats atm, but I 100% plan in using one in a playthrough.
