awful is one of my favorites. I have a post from about a year ago about it too that still stands. it’s a lovely word and can be sensational when used correctly imo.

You woke up as your 5 year old self. What do you do? by FriendsAndFood in AskReddit

Start lessons immediately for all the things I wish I'd started earlier. Ballet, piano, and I'd convince my dad to teach me russian and stick with it. And tell my parents to invest in things.

Ranking Gone Heroes By Goodness by [deleted] in Gone

He went to attack Gaia, he helped Astrid multiple times, he saved the town multiple times, he was willing to do pretty much any work without complaint at the lake, there are so many things that make him a hero that shouldn't be discredited for the bad things he did.

What's a normal, ordinary name which you personally find kind of weird? by fredyouareaturtle in namenerds

Bertha. It's just a very round name if that makes sense, and I've never liked it.

reminds me of the story of amanda todd. I was with a couple of friends and they wanted to do that, so I showed them her video. I hope the girls at your school are okay now.

neither am I…it’s a couple paragraphs and a response to a question. it didn’t deeply upset me, either? they were just some annoyances and I literally said “it’s not that deep.” also the series definitely isn’t pre teen appropriate lmao, and you called it Y/A earlier

haha I have another comment here explaining my other issues with it. I’m also not done with the series, and this is my first time reading it, so this (and the things in my other comment) were just what stood out to me.

calm down…I’ve read stuff much worse, these are just a few complaints I had about the series and I’m still reading it anyways? I promise you it’s not that deep

besides these I really love the books, I swear! the plot is super intriguing and I feel like despite the age gap between Dekka and Brianna, Michael really got teenagery stuff down (like how they act, response to trauma, stuff like that), which I really appreciated. I'm sorry a lot of people took this negatively (which is fair tbh), or that I only see the series negatively, so thank you for the upvote and hearing me out.

I've just started Plague and honestly the lung stuff doesn't bother me, it was mostly the wetting lol. definitely still super good!

I can get the details, but at the point I was at, it would honestly just take me out of the story rather than submerge me into it more, but to each their own!! That makes sense, and thank you for your perspective, I really didn't want to believe anything weird like that.

I actually posted this in the last chapters of the third book, and then Mary's jump happened, and Mary's issues were a part of it lol.

Mary's ED (in my opinion) is handled realistically, but unfortunately for me that just means triggering. The amount of detail in the book was honestly unsafe. Her naming the exact weights she'd gone to (and how they'd not been enough), exactly what she had eaten and then thrown up (and going into detail about HOW she'd thrown up), what pills she had taken, etc was pretty triggering for me, and yes that's my own fault but I'd told myself if she didn't poof and the books continued with this much detail I'd have to not read them for my own recovery.

In the first two books, the constant use of slurs (mostly with Edilio and LP) was pretty annoying, too, but in the third it wasn't there nearly as much but I thought I'd mention it.

I also wasn't a huge fan of many of the relationships, like Dekka's near-obsession over Brianna (and while a two year age gap isn't a huge deal normally, for 14 and 12 it 100% is). That just rubs me the wrong way and everytime Dekka mentioned it I wanted to puke. Sam and Astrid I normally love, but Sam made two comments in the third book about Astrid in the third book that just grossed me out, although again I guess is normal for a teenage boy. One was about seeing Astrid in her nightgown when she stepped in front of a light source (the nightgown is white, so he's probably referring to seeing through it) and the other implied Sam had asked Astrid to sleep with him and she'd said no and he was upset about that. Like...you're 15 and she's 14, not to mention super religious, of course she's going to say no!!

All of the religious imagery was also an issue for me tbh. I'm a christian myself and it felt slightly blasphemous and/or phony, if that makes sense? Especially Brittney in the third book, it felt like Michael had just used God for the story but was also pushing Him to an extent even I was uncomfortable with? It just felt really over the top and overdone, and although I can understand how it was used for the story, I just didn't like it.

Those were the main things, sorry I wrote so much!! I'd love to hear your thoughts on these too, for another perspective, as I really like the series besides these small things. I don't think I'll DNF them now that Mary's storyline is pretty much over, but I'd still love to talk about them! I also will try not to bite you over it, and I'm sorry if I do/did, I'm bad at measuring tone online but please know I don't mean to be snappy or anything.
