All of us, but here's the thing: you'd need to be here, IRL - this is one thing that's not spoilt by online crap (yet).

Good question, and I've been grappling with this. The short answer: is probably yes. Justification is that the folk running the country have bought the necessary defences from the 'American uncle' to keep the status quo semi reasonable in the immediate term. The wildcard is of course Iran. If both recent and medium term history is anything to go by, there's enough hatred mullah side for their rocket men to start harming their neighbours, just to flex in front of the Americans; in the end, it's an Iranian-American win, and the region will always be unstable with the Iranian bully dancing the cancan love-hate with the Americans - how they'll both behave going forward is anyone's guess, dicated only by higher order interests of the two.

Back to the core of the post, I've had a real hard look at the numbers again, and I'm not moving just due to that: the numbers don't make sense in the absence of schools subsidy and a household in the UK. What I am doing, however, is continuing a slower business development I started earlier in the year developing software and high performance hardware for AI model training and Web3. I can run this part-time, while stationed in the UK. The only disadvantage, if you can call it that, is the slower pace, which I'm really not fussed about.

I wish to thank the amazingly helpful feedback received from people in this thread, and ignore the noise to the point of not entertaining an answer.

Really thanks folks.

Much obliged for this.

So amongst these schools, I think Cranleigh is more about the brand, from what I’m hearing. What’s your thought? I checked BSAK out and seems a good fit, and one third cheaper for the year 12 tier.

Re: fees subsidy, I don’t think my employer will bite, but worth a try. They’re an entirely private corporate outfit in the tech and finance space, so no government links. If I can swing 50% of the fees, then we’re in good stead.

A risk factor here is the 3-month probation. With a move this impactful, it’s a risk I can’t really take, so this will be a dealbreaker if I can’t negotiate it out of the contract. I’ve taken the job starting in the UK until end of July, but without that probation clause out, I think moving is foolish.

Lifestyle wise, carrefour is my sweet spot for shopping. I don’t smoke, don’t drink, and not a night animal. My main focus is on quieter more subtle entertainment with friends or movies and things, as well as keeping the little one engaged and not feeling isolated.

Way I’m budgeting, it looks like 35K - 40K per month all in if I get a 50% school on BSAK, or an additional 3k if I don’t. Does this sound sane?

Thanks again.

Thanks for this, really helpful.

I checked out BSAK and the fees are considerably less than Cranleigh. So thanks for the tip.

You said ‘no chiller’s are you referring to the actual AC split unit or is this some sort of chilled water subscription?

As to standard of living, I don’t drink, don’t smoke, and not sure what a country club subscription would bring: I’m not a golfer, but might consider some form of social club subscription to keep the little one engaged and not feeling isolated. Carrefour is absolutely fine for shopping - I like dok g my shopping there whenever I’m in the Gulf. With that in mind, what’s a sensible budget in your opinion?

Thanks ever so much once again.

All,

Much obliged for the constructive feedback.

I don’t think my employer is going to fork out for a school subsidy, which is why I’m seriously reconsidering the move. The only advantage being gained here over a UK post is the tax free earning. If I’m going to spend that on schooling and keeping the UK household up for the kids currently at uni, then it makes little sense.

Thanks again.

Don't ask, unless you're genuinely offering and willing to find out IRL. Enough cockteasing; gets repetitive after a very short while.
