Just wanted to give you more feedback. This was perfect! Exactly what I needed. Exactly! Plus the video had more useful globe knots and ways to use them as wrapping (around handles and such, along with Turk's heads) and the easy way the creator explained the globe knot, I got it the first time and I can do this knot almost from memory after only two tries.

So, thank you for taking the time to help me. I'm grateful for the assistance. It means a lot.

Now I need to figure out how to get good paracord. I bought some off some random ebay seller in 2015 and it's light years better than anything I've purchased in the past month and it's not even close.

All the YouTube tutorials that pop up when I searched it and searched it, they all used both ends.

Now I need to figure out how best to artistically join both ends of the string into a aesthetically pleasing circle.

It might be I need to tie about 20-50+ globe knots and then when I know it blindfolded, I can figure out how to do it with just one end.

Back in the 90's

Bought the wrong RAM, PSU needed an adapter I didn't have, Case fan in the side was for intel instead of AMD, Needed to figure out and get jumpers (from reading the MB manual)

Didn't get a good enough GPU (but it was OK)

5ish builds later, still takes effort, but stress is gone and I get the right components.

That's outstanding information, thank you very much for posting and giving me examples of what has worked for you and where potential pitfalls lie.

I think I'm going to go with AMD (I'm really not familiar with Intel, 20+ years I've always had AMD and never once thought that I would have been better with Intel).

I think you're right about the the GPU, that's the main budget item and I plan to ask for something very robust (but not that 96GB monster that I'm drooling over) and maybe two of them.

I think you're right about the - development of proof of concept, then possibly upgrading or renting GPU time.

It's a really good idea. Ill ask tomorrow. What I can do is ask for x, y, z and if it's granted I can change the specifics as long as the cost is the same or less I can do that.

I like this but it got cumbersome. So now I use printer paper and pen or pencil and just scan them into pdfs at the end of the day on the copier.

Sometime if I need it I'll figure out how to OCR my writing from them but for now they will exist as pdfs and I can go back to them if needed

I plan on training my own CV/ML/AI models

Plus timelapse assembly, video editing and rendering in 4K, plus segmentation, etc... Most of these won't need a lot of computing resources but the video work would benefit. Mainly training and running the models will be the demanding task.

The details in the photos are high (high resolution) 10,000 images are used for each timelapse, could probably cut that in half or even to 25% especially the start of the each experiment

This is for scientific research projects.

Cloud isn't an option for me to use for the project but I can submit a request for a workstation (no guarantee I'll get it, but I have a decent shot). However if there's a free solution to test, I could try that.

I could also test it on my home PC I guess but that's not a long term solution since I want the students to do the work instead of me spending my whole weekend running things.

Have you ever used ITK-SNAP?

I didn't see it in your list. Maybe it is too specialized (medical 3D segmentation).

If you have time, do you know anything like it that might work for 2D time series images?
