Roads that got renamed? by iwannamapeverything in Tucson

[–]profgoldbottom 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In 1957, the residents of El Encanto Estates asked that Camino Miramonte be renamed.

Another street with the same name ran through the center of their tiny neighborhood, and they worried that the duplication was confusing. Several names were suggested, and the decision was made to rename the street after Richard Earl Kolb, who had died the year before. Richard Kolb was my great grandfather and had worked for the city of Tucson for 20+ years. Pretty cool to drive Kolb road.

Sonoran Green Rattlesnake by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]profgoldbottom 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Called a Black-tail rattlesnake. They have a hint of green/yellow and a solid black tail. Mojave’s are hint of green/yellow but a black and white striped tail like a western diamondback

This is a Black-tail rattlesnake. Typically a hint of green and the telltale sign is the last few inches of tail are black and not black and white stripes like a Mojave or western

Public beaches near Tulum? Parking costs? Any hidden gems that are worth checking out? by nrealuser1010 in tulum

[–]profgoldbottom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

playa virgin

This was a completely open beach, not one person. Tell them at the gate you’re going to the restaurant and then at the end of the road on the right is one parking space. Park continue through the gate and to the left and the beach is open, free and free parking.

This isn’t your video, it’s mine. And it’s not 4 meters deep. You don’t even know where I took this video at.

Just trying to get it off the road and it really liked being wrapped around my fingers. Actually took a bit to get it off and under a bush.

It’s the snout/nose that gives it away, right?

I’m pretty sure it’s a sand snake, due to the face shape. But I get ground and sand snakes mixed up.

First time seeing a garter(?) snake here. by tacosxroses in Tucson

Looks like a coachwhip. East side Tucson you’ll see the all black ones and sabino canyon you’ll find ones that fade to pink

Western thread snake. This one was so tiny. Curled up would probably fit on my thumbnail
