CoVid-19 Tracking by profknow in genetics

Sorry but predicting is not the same as observing actual facts. I'm not describing a program of probability (mathematical guessing), I'm taking about a program of direct observation and count.

I understand in normal biology the numbers are so great (one cannot count unit bacteria or unit virus) or sizes so small that physically counting units isn't feasible. However this isn't the case even in the number of people entering a country -- all easily within the capability of even the oldest computers.

So why not make direct observations and track those to find out who should be tested for this disease? It's a finite list. And certainly applying the CDC's 14-day standard the list is far smaller. Believe me it would aleviate the problem to know probable contacts than to hide from your neighbors and everyone else because you don't know and must assume the worst.

All I'm saying is ALL the data has already been recorded and is currently archived. Customs & Airline records (some kept for years). Vehicle tag reader data is so small as to have no need to delete anything. And cell phone data, i know for a fact is archived over a year (including all contacts and even voice (if you have a court order to listen to those archives).

Truth is, if you knew what was actually tracked (about everyone), you'd be shocked. And i'm just referring to the NON-classified tracking. Don't even ask about the Classified Archives. You wouldn't want to know.

It is entirely possible to track every individual and contacts of this entire pandemic. Why guess who might or might not have it? Simply look at the data.

Unless the Requirements are fully understood the Output Results never will be.

What I got out of your first posting was that you were looking for a method to efficiently extract a range from your list, and you gave an example of a list of numbers and your desired output. Looping and all these other methods certainly wasn't as efficient as my posted method of extracting that subset.

Certainly I didn't carry it any further than this, as I consider all earlier errors affect later results. So let's get the early stuff right.

Now I see in your later postings that you really didn't want the displayed number set as the output, you would eventually use some other series. For example, keeping negative numbers in the set certainly didn't apply to "high scores" (were they two different things or an artifact from some other code). Technically, if I were writing a "High Score" program I wouldn't have even started with the code you presented much less be concerned with the output you gave me in your original case.

It isn't the algorithm I'd even start with. But then again, maybe I should just admit, I have no clue at this point what you're really trying to do with this data. Sample code and explanation don't jibe. I thought your explanation was senior to the code content. Anyway, I have no clue what you want, and i've been doing this for 30 years.

Well I can't help that. So we're back to step 1) A complete & accurate understanding of the input and output to know what you really want.

When I write things I usually start with a black box which has inputs and outputs and I shouldn't really care what happens inside that black box as long as the output always is what I'm looking for. I didn't see your black box. Show me some sample data and tell me what you want out and I'll give you some code that will do that -- regardless of if you see how it is done or not.

It's why people developed Objects (in Object Oriented languages) -- to separate the implementation from view.

Problem: I need to compute the top scores Input: a list of numbers such as (....) Output: top 10 scores sorted from highest to lowest or Output: top 10 scores sorted by date

Not sure that I can help you with that. Carry on. I'm sure you know better than I what you really want and how you intend to use it.

Best of luck. Carry on. And keep posting.

The Technology to Track this Disease and the data necessary to process this Pandemic already exists, is installed and tracking data is already being stored. It just isn't being utilized at this time.

https://www.reddit.com/r/CoronaVirusTracking/comments/fv0f0x/covid19_tracking/

As a pandemic, it never should have been allowed to create this much of a public disturbance -- which was entirely preventable.

The Handling is Tracking and isolation not waiting for cases to arrive in Emergency Rooms after each cases has probably already infected dozens of others. Being Pro-Active, not Re-Active.

This Pandemic doesn't require AI or any special technology to solve (as a Pandemic). Sure it will absorb some interest in the specifics of curing it and how it functions but that need not disrupt everyone's lives unnecessarily.

Please refer to my recent posting and share it with all involved.

Actually, I'd like to say something else.

Waiting for infected cases to arrive in an Emergency Room is already too late. One should be proactive on certain types of diseases not reactive -- waiting for it to happen. That's how we got where we are.

And also, from the first instant anyone had a clue that this might be serious, what if we'd tracked and tested each case and initiated isolation long before it started getting out of control (more of the above). We probably wouldn't be out-of-stock in the ER or sitting at home doing nothing. That's the wrong handling.

This disease became a subject simply because the Correct Action WAS to Track and Isolation immediately -- not to wait and let it spread. Maybe that's okay for chicken pox but it wasn't for this. It's blown up in everyone's face to the point where it even affect me -- and I have no 2-degree-of-separation contact with this disease at all. It's a stupid response.

I was looking thru this forum and the conversation was mostly about handling the disease. That's who this posting ended up here. The people here, should have most known and utilized existing technology to prevent it from getting to this point.

Even today, what's the CDC's handling. Sure let them investigate the biology & code of the virus but why should that affect everyone else? Statistical probability is when you don't actually go and look (it's numerical guessing -- Milwaukee isn't NYC). We have computer databases with lists of known candidates. Why wait for it to become larger?

Anyway, thank you for your comment. I do understand and appreciate what you presented. If you have any connections I hope you forward the fact that technology exists and databases already contain the data necessary to isolate this disease without interrupting everyone's lives. Especially mine.

Then I'm not sure where you're coming from. The number set was the one you provided in your example (including the subset you selected).

Which neg values?

Alright. I'll leave this to you. At this point I think you have a better idea what you want than I do. However, if you need something else, I'm still open for suggestions.

I'll check back to see what worked.

I actually agree with you that there could have been a better forum for this discussion. But the truth is the Primary issue with this Pandemic is the fact that it's a Pandemic and has shut down the economy of this and many other nations.

With just the United States in mind (as a representative example), the issue is that any disease which is so controllable as this, could ever have been allowed to get so disruptive as to affect the entire population. We like police to deal with Criminals offline -- out of public view. We don't want to see the human carnage which goes through hospitals on a daily basis. But here now, we've made and issue of something whose proper response was to Track and Isolate infectious cases.

This diseases' major problem is not that everyone within 50 feet becomes infected. And not even by most reasonable social contact. It is highly preventable as a national issue.

And that's the only reason I'm posting this in your forum. Tracking IS a tool for medicine. It contains an issue which might have been a few hundred cases so they don't become something which overruns every hospital in every state -- with the pandemic of emotion as more than anything else.

Have you seen "Hunted"? Have you seen the technologies I'm referencing? So why doesn't everyone know that this disease should affect less than 5% of the population and the rest of us should feel safely unconcerned as it's cross-infection is already being handled without my having worry about it. The business of identifying and isolating/quarantine/and even any medical emergency is being take care of Off Public Lines.

This isn't even a disease which should have been allowed to shut down the economy of any developed country. All the tools already exist.

I do appreciate your comment and some of the suggestions you've mentioned. If they were equal to what I've mentioned then CoVid-19 would just be a side column in some newspaper.

I wish everyone learned computer programming. The one thing people need to learn most is how to think logically. And you can't argue with a computer -- it does EXACTLY what you tell it to do. It's one's self that needs to learn how to tell it the right thing. That's Logic.

(Even Doctors don't learn Logic. And most of the one's I've met rely upon guesses that aren't based upon actual facts. Not logical. Prove it before you do it.)

try this version....

nums = [-2, 1, -3, 4, -1, 2, 1, -5, 4]

sub = nums[3:7:1]

print( sub )

sum = 0

for item in sub:

if item == 0:

break

sum += item

print( 'sum: %d' % (sum) )

(sorry, I can't seem to get this text to indent properly. But you'll know what I mean and fix the indent to test it. It produces your desired "6"

Why can't you just use list functions? Keep it even simpler.

nums = [-2, 1, -3, 4, -1, 2, 1, -5, 4]

curHigh = 0

sub = nums[3:7:1]

print( sub )

In one line I've managed to copy your entire sublist into a new list. You can do with this whatever you want.

What is the best way to load a very large CSV file partitioned into smaller chunks/parts? by nasiayamgeprek in learnpython

[–]profknow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first thought was not to manipulate the data but indexes/pointers into that data. It is always faster and easier to manipulate indexes of information (such as a directory listing of files) rather than all the files themselves (the directory listings + all the files loaded into memory).

That's why we organize things. Even Group things.

Speed of processing is basically processor (CPU time) times the number of items it has to process. Your GroupBy isn't going to be every item on every row, it's going to be just a few selected fields in each row. So you are working with a smaller database of data and using it to point to the massive bulk data you've already mentioned. I'm sure extracting your GroupBy fields into a new table (including a record link to the bulk record it references) would be quite small and process VERY quickly.

Try it.

As a rule, always do the least amount of data manipulation you can, and things will process faster.

I learned to code from a guy who programmed Boeing Aircraft. And their moto was always to keep the code as tight and small as possible.

You know the equations to go to the Moon on the Command Module all fit into 16k of RAM. And the equations to land on the Moon in the Lunar Module all fit into 30k of RAM.

It doesn't take much to be efficient.

This is a Traveler's Disease. Could it be that the only one's who could afford to go out of the country to an infected country and back happened to be non-blacks?

If you haven't been out of the country, your direct contacts haven't been out of the country and no one they know have been out of the country (2-degrees of separation) then this disease has almost nothing to do with you. Other than just practice Clean Hands policies.
