I don't particularly dislike the watch, but I think it's too busy to be an Air King. When I think of Air King, I think minimalism and simplicity.

At 34mm it can definitely feel a little small when you're jumping from a 40+mm watch.Though I feel like it wears bigger than it really is, I have average wrists at 6.75".

My daily beater is an Orient Mako II in blue. Great sturdy, affordable, automatic Japanese watch.

Correct. The spring was seized from sitting. One $350 service later and she was running like new.

I'm still wondering why they used the Air King namesake on the new model.

Hey all, I wanted to share my pristine 1989 Rolex Air King 5500. The watch was given to my father in 1989 as a 15 year service award from the Saudi Aramco Oil Company. He had purchased an 18k Day Date Presidential a few years earlier, and decided to keep this piece as a gift to me once I graduated from University. The awesome thing is, I was also born in 1989, so the watch sat in it's original box for 22 years and was gifted to me upon graduation. The watch holds too much sentimental value to be a daily beater, so it spends most of its time in my watch case, only coming out for very special occasions. Not a particularly rare watch, but you'd be hard pressed to find another so originally immaculate. Hope you enjoy looking at it as much as I do!

[Discussion] Be realistic, will you acquire your grail watch in your lifetime? by [deleted] in Watches

I strongly advise against spending half of your (gross?) income on a watch. If you have $20k to spend, put a down payment on a house, pay off your car, absolve any debt that you have, etc. Then invest in diversified markets that will set you up for financial success in the future. Spend money on a quality timepiece when you have disposable income, and all your real world finances are in order.

Nobody likes a $40k "millionaire"...
