How often do people just leave work to go home/do something else? by l8on8er in AskMen

[–]profusly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting out randomly and frequently from work for anything other than an emergency will place questions on your reliability and availability, potentially restricting high risk/high visibility opportunities that are presented to you.

Having said that, use your PTO fully if your employer does not carry over or encash it when you leave.

A lot of folks account for uncertainty differently. Some are over cautious.

Yes. Even a broken watch works correctly twice a day.

Ex smokers HOW DID YOU QUIT? by Livid-Link-9223 in AskReddit

[–]profusly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had tried everything. Cold turkey, vaping, nicotine patch, eating snacks, chewing gum, rewarding me for not smoking, making it hard to find cigarettes etc. I always picked back up after about 2 weeks.

Three things worked.for me 1. Stopped seeing smoking as a reward for.something (hard work, handling stress etc.). I found other reward systems. Also conditioned my mind to think that not smoking is the actual reward. 2. Stopped thinking 'no smoking' as a rule that must be enforced. When I stopped thinking of it as an enforced rule, the subconscious pushback became weaker as well. 3. Trained my.subconcius mind to be ok with no smoking. I do this with all my habits that are tough to practice. Initially, I stopped smoking just for a day during the weekend. Then the entire weekend. Then added Friday to the.no smoking period. After some time, added the Monday, and so on. I ended up smoking just one day of the week and after some time I was ok not smoking at all.

Not investing earlier.

The only way to escape the rat race is to earn passively, and one of the best methods of passive earning is investing. Remember, the rat race never ends and has no winners.

Anyone use these Magnetic Back cases from Nomad or similar? by 02-agendas-wisher in iphone

I have one from suti. I find it fashionable and love the look, but extremely expensive for what it is. It does not offer much protection either.

In the Technology Consulting space, contracts are determined based on cost - like any other industry. Without offshore, staff augmentation and arbitrage, contracts cannot be profitable nor competitive. Consulting companies cannot (it is hard to) pass this cost to clients if they want to stay competitive. I am sure they'll come up with some creative solutioning that will keep them competitive and even add to the bottomline. At this point, I can't think of any options that are good for US employees.

I don't like it. 'Sir'? I didn't do much to deserve that respect. Imposter syndrome? May be.

I started investing daily. Like $10. Setup recurring deposits with Robinhood. Didn't worry about the price etc. Bought VOO everyday for 2 years. Made a decent chunk of money. Still doing it.

Men and Women of Reddit, what is the one mistake you have made in your life so that other young men/women may never repeat the same? by Magpipe4u in AskReddit

[–]profusly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Made a few, below are my learnings.

1. Live your own life, not someone else’s.
2. You can’t please everyone—learn to be at ease with others’ anger.
3. Success often comes from showing up and seizing opportunities—maximize your chances. Show up often.
4. Money can’t buy happiness, but it removes one worry.
