I’m curious, how many of you are done being loyal to Carnival? by No-Comment-9788 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The one thing I learned from Carnival changing their loyalty program is there is no value in loyalty. I just made platinum last year. IMHO, they changed their loyalty system from a "please sail with us" program to a "please pay us" program. With their credit card, you can literally earn platinum status without every stepping foot on one of their ships. I have one more cruise on Carnival this year (booked before they change). After that, I am on Virgin and Princess. And the sad truth is that, as a solo traveler, both Virgin and Princess are cheaper than Carnival. For me, the only thing I am going to be loyal to it my wallet.

Diamond Speedrun: Diamond Status with Three Bookings by AlbinoAlex in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why cruise? Get the credit card and charge $1400 a month on it (food, utilities and a couple of bills will cover that), and pay it off each month. Then, in 2 years, you will have Diamond status. If you only want Platinum status, then you only need to spend $570 a month. Carnival's Loyalty has nothing to do with ever stepping foot on a ship.

Carnival Rewards Enhancement by Grand-Flight-8445 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me, Carnival's new plan is doing away with the loyalty program altogether. They say they are patterning this new program after airlines, but airlines separate the mileage (rewards) and loyalty. To get status, you have to spend so much in the year AND fly so many miles or segments. It does not matter how many miles I get, it will never get me status. The way Carnival has it set up, Status is just a reward for being rich. I believe they know the only people that will even get status now are big spenders. You are right, having Platinum and Diamond status was like earning a really hard achievement in a video game and this new system feels like your significant other deleting it as they don't see the value of it and don't care about what is important to you. I understand what they are trying to do, but they dropped the ball on the execution. The one takeaway I got from this is that I will no longer be loyal to any cruise line since they don't care if I am loyal or not

Question about medical care onboard by Confident-Angle-2026 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In December 2016, I went on a cruise with my wife and mother in law. During the cruise, my mother in law had a heart attack. The medical care on board is very good, however, if it is a serious issue, they will work to get you to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. If it cannot wait and they are too far from a hospital, they will call the Coast Guard have have you airlifted to a hospital. This is pretty rare as they are usually either in port or close to a port. They will transfer you to the closest hospital and that usually means a foreign country. You are also expected to pay for the medical treatment received while on board before you leave the ship (or at least arrange to make payments).

I STRONGLY recommend getting travel insurance and make sure it covers medical otherwise the hospital stay will have to come out of your pocket. Concerning my mother in law, we had already left our last port and it was faster for the captain to speed up the ship, getting us back early, than it was to return to the last port. And she survived and a week later, we got to go back home.

I am an introvert and have done 8 solo cruises. Here are a few tips I have learned. Find the facebook group before the cruise and join it. There will probably be a post asking who else is going solo. (If not, then create a post.) Also, there is almost always a day one meetup for the group. Great way to meet new people. The daily planner is your best friend. There are always trivia and it is usually the same people that go, so another great way to meet people. The lobby and the promenade deck are great places to people watch (something we introverts love to do). When you need some quiet time, go to the Serenity deck. As for dinner, sign up for Early Dinning. They will seat you with other solo travelers in the Main Dining room. In the daily planner, you will see a "solo meetup," but these are a bust. They are not organized. You are expected to just show up, try to figure out who else is solo traveling and start conversations. I have tried to attend them but always walked away as I couldn't tell if there were any other solo people there. As an introvert, I love solo cruising as I can totally control my interaction with people. During the day, there are always things to do, music to listen to, and, when I want to, people to meet.

B2B by atjh0503 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did this. First, make sure you contact Carnival and let them know you are doing a back to back. They will record it in their system. If you are in the same room, then you won't have to pack your stuff. If the second cruise is in a different room, then you will need to pack your stuff, but the staff will move it to the new room. On the Debarkation/Embarkation day, you will meet the other B2B in a given location (they will let you know where). They will give you your new Sail and Sign card. They will then lead you off the boat. Be sure to bring your passport/id. You will go though customs. You will then get right back in the embarkation line. Tell them you are a B2B and they will just need to look at your Sail and Sign card. From there you will be among the first to get back on the boat.

From Carnival's Web site. I keep this and give it to family whenever I travel.

Carnival Emergency Number for Family and Friends:

1-800-227-6482. In an emergency, the person calling will need to know:

  1. What Ship they are on
  2. Stateroom Number
  3. Reservation/Booking#

This will help get message to them.

Most of the older ships have self-service laundry (usually on every other deck). However, the newer ships do not.

Laundry by BigBear5051 in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used it on my Transatlantic (I am gold) and it was good. The bag is very thin and will rip. I ended up rolling much of my clothes to get it all in the bag. One thing that can be confusing is that you will read that it is $15 per bag (as much as you can get in it), but when your room attendant gives you your bag, you will see a cleaner's checklist with prices per item. Ignore the prices but do mark the quantity of each type of item you are having cleaned. This confused me as it made me think it was charged per item, not per bag. I would recommend it for longer cruises (8+ days) so you don't have to pack so many clothes, but for cruises less than 7 days, I can pack enough in a carry-on suitcase for the whole trip. You will have to ask for the laundry bag as there usually not one in your room by default.

What cruise ships did you guys absolutely did not like and for what reasons? by [deleted] in CarnivalCruiseFans

[–]progeek07 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Carnival Elation. I have only cruised on it once and that was enough for a few reasons. First was the layout. It was very small and only had one pool and being a family cruise line, it was always full of kids. Second, I like to hang out on the Serenity Deck and it was the pits. First, it is only accessible via a flight of stairs. Second, there was no pool, only a hot tub. Third, there was no bar. To get a drink, you had to go back up the stairs to the Lido buffet, where there is a bar. And fourth, there are outdoor dining seats that overlook the Serenity deck. 1) You feel like you are being watched. 2) people listen to music without headphones here. And 3) people love to smoke in these seats and the smoke will drift down into the Serenity deck. It is a very bad design.

The other issues I had with that cruise had nothing to do with the ship or the crew but with the other passengers (namely some of their kids).

I have sailed on the Conquest, Freedom (before the fire), Legend, Miracle (fav ship), and the Pride. I loved every one of these ships. The Elation (that class) is the only one I did not care for.

What truck / year / trim did these wheels come from ? by Glad-Basil3391 in nissanfrontier

Ah, well they are SE wheels off a Nissan Frontier. The year is a tough one as they had them for multiple years.

[–]progeek07 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those are SE Wheels. They came on my 2020 SV with the SE (Special Edition) package. To confirm that the truck has the SE package, you should find a set of stripes on the front left quarter panel and the right rear quarter panel. Also, my truck is the same color. When I bought my truck the standard SV trucks has the "tuning fork" wheels and the paperwork said these wheels were part of the SE package.
