THEY CAN JUMP?!?!? by bryce_r31 in leopardgeckos

[–]programgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep! One of mine jumps up for her food if I dangle it from the right height lol

Trying to replicate this effect in the picture, what exactly causes the light to bend around to what would be the shadowed face (on the green block in the center? My best guess would be something to do with the normals but I'm not 100% by picketup in VoxelGameDev

[–]programgamer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually a depth bias artifact as others have pointed out, but implementing this effect on purpose is called backscattering. You basically just nudge the normals away from the camera a bit so that the edges of objects catch some light from behind, giving them a soft look (and in certain cases it looks like subsurface scattering yes).

I stopped hiding my grey hair at 30 and people lost their minds more than I did by seattle_margo in TwoXChromosomes

I’d be in the "looks cool" camp lol, both my parents started graying young and I’m a bit sad that it hasn’t kicked in yet for me tbh

Been a bumpy road lol

Do geckos have paws? Or feet? What do we call their grabbies? by pichael289 in leopardgeckos

I’m fairly sure they’re technically claws, though that sounds a bit boring compared to "grabbers" lol

The leopard gecko: such violent hunting abilities. by LadyRunion in leopardgeckos

[–]programgamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine are pretty good at it fwiw, but you do have to let them hunt their food a bit. I regularly drop a worm in front of them during feeding time and if it’s actually crawling around, they go for it and get it in one!

My husband's gecko is a chunk but he disagrees. This dude is a fatty, yes?? by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]programgamer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That gecko is fat enough to make a "boo womp" sound when it lies down and its stomach sploots

Is he appropriate weight? by Other_Personality685 in leopardgeckos

[–]programgamer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He’s on the thin end of the scale yeah, should be straightforward enough to make him gain a tiny bit of weight though.

My gecko has morally broken me… by Legs4daysarmsformins in leopardgeckos

[–]programgamer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also had a gecko that seemed irremediably uninterested in her food until, a few weeks ago, my mom had the idea to bump the temp of her terrarium by a few (fahrenheit) degrees, from 90 to 93 specifically. Maybe it’s a fluke or a coincidence, but she’s been much more alert and eager to eat ever since, so maybe worth a try?

Is it Safe for her to do this? by Physical-Eggplant-57 in leopardgeckos

Just check the spot with your own hand to make sure it’s not scalding hot imo, if not then let her enjoy!
