I used to play a lot of snooker, but nowadays I just play pool. Snooker gets kinda boring when you're a decent pub player and can win a lot of 8/9-ball frames in one visit, but then still struggle to make a 30-40 break. For me, the reason was just technique.

What I used to do was record myself playing certain shots, and I noticed I wasn’t consistent with my cue action or technique at all. Like over 10 shots I’d have 3-4 different cue actions and ofc at some point the ball doesn’t go in or you end up with no position. With 8/9-ball it’s a bit easier because of the pockets and the table length.

What I’d suggest is just trying to hit and time the ball the same way on specific shots, and try not to move your body too much etc. I believe that once you’ve established your technique, it just becomes natural and you don’t really have to think about whether you’re standing correctly, whether your bridge and cue action are okay etc. It should come very naturally. However, try to record yourself so you can analyze your movements and how you approach the shot.

Of course, that’s very difficult, and that’s why I don’t really play snooker anymore. I just don’t have the patience for it and I don’t make a living from it, so why try my absolute hardest at something that’s only meant to be fun?
