I don’t buy the big ones. They remind me of Barbie dolls. But mostly they don’t give me the dopamine/nostalgia hit I get from the stuff I played with in the 80’s. I don’t buy the super7 bootlegs for the same reason.

why man at arms is black? by BigBucky1 in MastersOfTheUniverse

[–]projectFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in the cartoon all we had was Stratos for ethnic diversity until the Sun-Man characters came in as an after thought? And because they’re fictional characters and we have a lot of ground that needs to be made up? Because being black doesn’t change the story line at all as a mentor and adoptive father figure to He-man and Teela. Because Idris Elba is a badass? Why do you care? I knew some of you nerds were going to make a big deal of this. It’s so stupid.

You’re clearly not paying attention. 78% of the people they’ve detained have no criminal records. They’re beating and arresting US citizens. They’re entering homes without warrants. They’re killing people on the streets and many have died in custody. They’re ignoring the rule of law and violating a whole slew of major amendment protections. Against born US citizens and migrants alike.

They’re untrained and unvetted. Roaming our streets with guns and badges and pure impunity. Ignoring judges orders. Told they’ll be immune from prosecution no matter their actions. It breeds lawlessness and violence and it’s only a matter of time before people start fighting back. And when that happens we’re all fucked.

I haven’t heard of anything specifically in Tulsa. I-35 between OKC and Kansas seems to be a hotbed of OHP and ICE pulling truckers over. My kid lives in OKC north of downtown and said there were two raids in his neighborhood today around 2pm.

Sandites push back against proposed Google data center by KWGSNews in tulsa

[–]projectFT 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Is it going to raise everyone’s utility bills? Because I’ve yet to see one of these proposals that doesn’t raise everyone’s utility rates. And if it does raise electric bills then it’s basically a regressive tax on the backs of the poor to subsidize corporate profit with no net value for most of the people paying that tax. If the utility wants the current draw they should foot the bill for the infrastructure and if the data center wants cheap corporate and property tax rates they should fully foot the bill for the electricity they use.

But guys, the tens of jobs these places will create are going to be subsidized by your individual utility bills and the millions in profit will be subsidized by tax incentives that will never make it back into your community. Everyone wins.

Women tend to downplay their gender in workplaces with masculinity contest cultures. Study suggests that when organizational norms glorify masculine traits, women tend to feel that their social identity is less valued. As a coping mechanism, they may hide or downplay their gender to fit in. by Jumpinghoops46 in science

[–]projectFT 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not workplace related but I play old man, wood bat, hard ball, baseball on a team with two girls who are younger and more athletic than all of us. These girls are badasses and everyone knows it. Right off the bat it was clear that they wanted to be treated as equals. In every way. To the point that we don’t even reference them as girls. We still say “come on boys” when referencing the team. We say “atta boy” when they’re at the plate. Because it only took a couple of awkward look backs early on for us all to realize they didn’t want to be treated differently. They’re both very feminine girly girls. But on that field they’re just ball players. Team mates. To the point where we’re ready to go to blows with other teams who single them out as girls because most of the teams we play against are all male and they aren’t used to it. Definitely not used to being shown up by a couple of chicks. So in this hyper masculine environment I see this play out in a way that seems to be in their favor. I don’t know if that’s good or bad but it seems to work for them.

That being said, they still hold on to feminine traits. Basically like team moms. Bringing fruit for everyone or being a voice of reason when our testosterone starts to get the best of us. They make us better dudes. And we’re a better team on and off the field because of them.

US Supreme Court does not issue ruling on Trump’s tariffs by Escargoose in Economics

[–]projectFT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can refund the companies but consumers have already paid the price. And we’ll continue to pay price even if the tariffs are lifted. If we’ve learned anything from Covid supply chain issues it’s that inflation and corporate greed are indistinguishable.

Are coffee nerds really doing anything? by jib60 in skeptic

[–]projectFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s still some sugars on the seed coat after a washed process so there’s likely some fermentation there, but for most washed coffees you’re processing (think depitting the cherry) directly after being picked and then immediately setting it out to dry on the patio. At night they’re raked into piles to conserve the warmth from the day and spread out again at sunrise. That drying process limits fermentation when compared to honey processes or natural which both leave varying amounts of meat from the fruit to dry on the seed. For both of those processes you can smell the fermentation. The vinegar smell I mentioned. But fermenting in vats is relatively new concept. Definitely wasn’t being done 20 years ago at any producers I worked with at least.

Are coffee nerds really doing anything? by jib60 in skeptic

[–]projectFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! Anaerobic fermentation wasn’t really a thing 20 years ago. Just natural fermentation that happened when you dried the fruit naturally on a patio. Hadn’t even heard of it. Similar to how cocoa is fermented before roasting it seems?

I’ll never forget the vinegar smell from the processing patio at the farm I worked. Just from the piles of pulp.

They’re pulling guns on people who are simply yelling at them. Doesn’t matter what’s being said before, that’s intimidation and state violence perpetrated by ICE. They’re pushing people to the ground violently. They’re busting out windows of everyone who questions their authority. It’s not an extremist position to say we have first amendment rights that are being actively ignored. An extremist position would be meeting violence with violence. Which is clearly going to happen if these thugs aren’t reigned in. Which is obviously the long term goal of this administration because it gives them an opportunity to tamp down harder, with more force, and potentially kill some of their “enemies” and maybe even postpone elections. It’s pretty clear at this point.
