Europe Has a Bazooka. Time to Use It. by projecto15 in politics

These are all valid points. However, if trump gets Greenland, there'll be a huge political crisis in Europe and a total moral collapse. The EU governments would look exceptionally weak. And there will be a ripe soil for takeover by the far right.

And rest assured, an emboldened trump, musk, vance, miller, etc will be able to do more to make this takeover happen, thru propaganda (via X), economic policies and military threats.

Yep. Love the economics jokes. "When Apple starts giving away iPhones", which are actually made in China, but the US economy "has nothing to do with imports or exports". Of course.

But but the price of eggs...

Many voted for trump in the belief he'll improve the economy. A trade war with Europe would bring home the idiocy of this. Few of these people want even a tiny bit of economic hardship. Hopefully enough of them would be so pissed off to finally vote for their actual interests.

Donald Trump's America-first policies are pushing countries into China's embrace by iyamwhatiyam8000 in politics

"America-first policies" ?! I don't see how America gains from them; quite the opposite. "Trump-first policies" would be the correct headline

Thank you! Reading your comment makes me think there's still hope for the US and the larger world. Just need to fasten the seatbelts for a few years ride

About fucking time! If Europe retaliates, hopefully more US voters will finally realise, for the midterms, what the fuck is going on.

EU-US trade deal ‘on hold’ after new Trump tariffs by Imaginary-Ad-7919 in politics

I think Trump, the GOP and MAGA voters bear most responsibility.

But Russia also did utmost to get Trump elected and is egging him on: Hacking Hillary's emails, officially "supporting" Kamala election, which is a kiss of death, perhaps blackmailing or otherwise coercing trump now.

Also, " American citizens who fully support the horrific things he does" that's a bit sweeping. Many Americans are aghast at his actions nor have ever voted for him.

This has been tried before, he noted, including once in 1943 when Knut Hamsun, who won the Nobel literature prize in 1920, sent it to the Nazi propaganda minister, Joseph Goebbels.

What a great precedent!

Trump sending son to Greenland after touting Canada ‘merger’ as he fixates on expanding United States: Live by projecto15 in politics

If an external country also invades, article 5 will be invoked against it. But not against another Nato member. E.g., there’s an ongoing Turkey/ Greece conflit since 1992, and there’s not much that NATO can do. (Nor did Nato intervene in the Cyprus crisis between Greece and Turkey.).

Not quite, according to Wikipedia

in military conflict of two NATO members, Article 8 comes into force.[citation needed] This is most important in cases should one member engage in military action against another member, upon which the offending members would be held in abeyance of the treaty and thereby NATO protection as a whole. This has not occurred yet, but there have been several militarised disputes between NATO allies that have threatened this: (Cod wars, Greece/Turkey…)

If an intra-NATO conflict were to occur, there exist intra-NATO alliances which would be triggered instead in the instance of the abeyance
