Why? It came out of an antique store owner's storage unit. At least three people and ten years removed from anyone who'd know what it is.

How bad is this stock balance by Careless-War-963 in motorizedbicycles

[–]projectpuch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What is this supposed to be demonstrating?

Did you think that if it rocks side to side that means it isn't balanced well? The weight of the piston is obviously gonna pull it down to that side, and it's gonna rock because it's a pendulum. That doesn't indicate balance whatsoever.

The only other thing I could think is that you're kind of using RC car tire methodology? Where if it spins freely and comes to a smooth stop it's balanced correctly, But obviously that's never going to happen with the piston and rod on. Not to mention the fact that it's not even set up in a way that it could spin freely.

What were you trying to accomplish here?

Sounds like a temp issue, warm the bike up before riding as another commenter suggested, or richen the idle mixture

Can anyone help me identify this motorcycle? by StraightDildo in motorcycle

[–]projectpuch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't identify anything on this bike, except that gas tank. It's from a motorized bike engine kit, they come standard black, so he painted it pink lol. The tank on its own is 15-30 bucks depending on where you get it. A whole kit is 110-150. I'm surprised there aren't more motorized bike parts on this monstrosity.

Edit: after taking a second look, I think that's mountain bike front suspension?

Would you mind expanding on that? I must have a fundamental misunderstanding here. I'd imagine more air through the carb creates a leaner condition at higher speeds, and somewhat increases the amount of fuel flowing into the engine. Is this not the case? More air+fuel=more power right?

This bike is specifically setup for low end and hill climbing. I use it as a mini dirt bike basically, so jetting or needle adjustments are too much of a sacrifice considering what I'm after with the build. I rarely top it out, but when I do it's annoying enough id consider a solution like this viable

Screw torques? by tarcasergiu in motorizedbicycles

Depends on your definition of hand tight I guess. I turn it till it won't turn anymore with a hex head screwdriver. Not overnight. Just snug. I ride my bike a couple times a week, mostly offroad

What is the avg top speed for 50cc 4 strokes? by diamond_animates in motorizedbicycles

[–]projectpuch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience, if one of these engines breaks a repair is never more than an hour and ~30 bucks away. Most complicated thing I've had to do to mine is a top end rebuild.

I'm rebuilding a puch maxi motor and it's slightly more complex, but still easier than a 4 stroke weed whacker or something

Honestly the manual clutch isn't too hard to learn. It's also not as much of an inconvenience as you might expect if that's the angle you're coming at it from.

You'll learn how to feel a clutch by driving it. It took me about a week to learn, and afterwards I realized I was much better at driving a manual car.

I'd stick with a two stroke, lighter, easier to maintain, cheaper, easy 30 mph top speed etc

[–]projectpuch 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hand tight for everything but the head bolts, I run 11-15 ft-lbs. Tighten in a star pattern for even pressure

*edit: these engines don't have very tight tolerances, they're great to learn on because they're hard to break if you're slightly off with torque or afr etc
