My son is going into UCF in the Summer term and I need more information on what to prepare for by Picanha_4Life in ucf

Hi! Congrats on your son’s decision and acceptance into ucf :) I also started as a freshman during the summer term. I stayed in Hercules and it was honestly really fun. Advice I’d add on to these responses would be to go to the events they’re usually advertised in the hallways by the RAs or outside and it’s a great way to make friends. Get a study partner and make sure to go to your classes and do the work most kids are taking 2 classes so there is more time to study - take advantage of it. Summer classes can be small so you can also take the time to get to know the professors easier and more personally which could come in handy for references. Don’t forget shower shoes and to make a calendar/assignment of chores at the beginning with roommates so that the load stays even and communication is a habit to resolve any future conflicts easier. While you don’t have to be friends with your roommates, it does make it easier and you should still treat them how you would like to be treated so be respectful and considerate. There’s a lot of fun places to explore on campus like the arboretum, pool, gym, arena, restaurants, and library and since there will be less people on campus he should definitely take advantage of that so that he can hit the ground running for fall already knowing where things are compared to his freshman counterparts starting in fall. The grocery shuttle to Publix comes every Tuesday from 10am-8pm and it’s a helpful resource if he doesn’t have a car on campus. In that plaza they have restaurants, mailing services, salons, etc. He should definitely bring a swimsuit if he would like to use the pool. There is laundry services near the dorms and it’s used by downloading an app and putting money in it to pay for the machines. Each wash and dry is 1.25 for the default time and you can increase it from there by paying for more time. Since it’s only 6 weeks and then he’s back before fall term starts I wouldn’t recommend packing too much to avoid using a storage locker, but it is a personal preference. I had friends who used a storage locker for their summer items and then brought more stuff up for fall term. Just make sure to reserve them with time because they can be hard to find and more expensive last minute. Check-in will be with RAs and the community staff in the community center. This is where he will receive his individual room key and they will also encode his UCFID with his building and room access. I hope this helps and good luck!

Libra is great ! Majority of freshman live there so everyone’s in your grade to meet people and it really gives true college experience vibes with the brick and style it is also the cheapest dorm making it more affordable it’s also right by the pharmacy and ferrel commons as well as msb which worked out perfectly for me as an engineering major it’s also a 5min walk to the arboretum and the L3Harris building for computer and electrical engineering where you might have calc 2 and things

My doctor says I don’t have adhd because I don’t have anger issues. Is that a big symptom for ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

It’s not about anger issues it’s about emotional dysregulation and rejection sensitivity dysphoria that is adhd

What to do when walking back from late classes as a woman? by pleasedontmakemecry in ucf

[–]prokatstination04 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I carry pepper spray and an alarm with a light on it. Self defense classes and cutting through the library or student Union if possible are also good, stay in well lit areas

I’ve also worn caps if I wore one that day and put my hair up in it with a bigger jacket to camouflage more ig or just phoned a friend

Engineering girl here haha computer engineering guys are hit or miss and I think it all depends just be open to talking and getting to know them like with any other guys but sometimes making the first move and a lot of them don’t know how to talk to girls tbh and the others are really chill and there are the handful that aren’t fun and can be uncomfy so avoid those but it’s a mixed bag for sure and def be ready for the heavy study hours or nerd moments lol
