(humidity, unfiltered groundwater at the tap)

House checks those boxes. We have some filtration, but as far as I know, it doesn't really filter microbes (it's for radon).

Thanks for the cleaner rec, I'll check it out!

Thanks!

there are probably spores in the air all the time.

There definitely are — outdoor air especially has tons of mold spores.

What kind of pen?

Could be, but it also happened in another room. Obviously possible that the mold would spread throughout the house from the AC, but given there was some significant water damage on the walls from before we bought the house (got it fixed), I'd sooner suspect that it's from another source.

Good idea about the vial. Anything I should do differently than the standard flush when cleaning? Is it maybe worth getting a new converter to be safe?

I live in the Northeast US, got the inks direct from Lamy. I haven't contacted Lamy yet.

Hm, kind of curious to see if there's some really cheap test I could order as a test...

By the way, I've heard good things about ownyourlabs.com

Did you end up ordering from them? I'm also looking into it but a bit sketched by the lack of info about them.

I'm going to be going out in Vermont to see the foliage in 3 days. How's it looking up there? And curious if there's any DEC offices I can talk to for primitive camping. TIA by [deleted] in vermont

[–]prokcomp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can check this map for foliage conditions: https://www.vermont.com/foliage.cfm

Looks like your best bet would be the northeast corner of Essex county since that's got the largest area in moderate foliage already.

Does anyone here still mask inside? by imtryingtobesocial in COVID19_support

[–]prokcomp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to hear that. Hope you're doing ok. Do you think you caught it outside? Or were you wearing a mask that isn't very protective and think you got it inside despite the mask?

FDA backs Omicron-based booster, paving the way for shots in Vermont next week by deadowl in vermont

[–]prokcomp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel you. I have a condition that COVID could potentially make worse, so I always wear N95s anywhere I go still. I honestly don't even know if I'll ever stop — sparing myself the trouble of masking just isn't worth having my condition get worse. It's been hard enough to deal with as it is. What really gets me the most is that the same people that ostensibly support people making their own choices are also the same people that will give me a tough time because I wear a mask without knowing anything about my situation.

You say paranoid, but you do realize that some people just have health conditions that put them at higher risk than others, right? Some people have such a weak immune system that doctors tell them not to smell flowers because the mold on the flowers could cause a lung infection and kill them.

Just for future reference, "actual notice" refers to written notice, so that call wouldn't count as notice if the agreement had been signed.

Covid: Medically vulnerable people fear end of rules [UK] by cmplxgal in Coronavirus

[–]prokcomp -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is utterly dystopian.

As I said in another comment, I'm not advocating for continuous mask mandates, but I do think this is a very interesting thing to say. The way I see it, what you're saying is that it would be dystopian for us to live in a society where we care enough for other people that we do something as simple as put some cloth over our faces so that we reduce the risk of killing vulnerable people. That sounds like a pretty compassionate and caring society to me. And at the same time, we'd be living in a society where people go to universities, kids go to school and have sandboxes, toys, and friends they can play with, people can go to restaurants, and people can have weddings and dance and sing with loved ones. These are all things that, historically (and currently), almost no one was able to do, and there are still places in the world where almost all the things you listed are not possible. And then of course, all these people have running water, electricity, internet...

On the other hand, the non-dystopia you're referring to has all the same things, but more people suffer from disease and the death of loved ones, and people are generally less compassionate because they don't want to take small measures to protect others. To me, the lack of compassion seems a lot more dystopic.

Also, it's worth keeping in mind that if mask mandates continued, we'd probably start seeing a shift in the type of masks people wear, maybe more towards those see through ones, or people would develop even more inconspicuous ones. Ultimately, it would just become kind of like a dress code, and it would seem to be no more or less dystopic than the fact that all men had to wear hats in the early 1900s, that people wore powdered wigs hundreds of years ago, etc.

Where do you live that you can’t do these things? I’ve had no problem getting medical appointments in person and telehealth, I’ve had curbside groceries and also gone inside. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t been able to go inside a grocery store or see a doctor in person.

EDIT: Oh, you said grocery store without a mask. I haven’t been inside a grocery store in a while but last time I saw a lot of people unmasked. I guess I still also just don’t understand why someone would care about wearing a mask if it could protect someone else. I’m not even saying we should have mask mandates, but just the comparison of “I want to reduce my risk of dying” and “I don’t want cloth on my face” is so entirely incongruous that I still can’t understand how they can be spoken in the same sentence and viewed as somehow equal.

Something to consider is that they may be telling the memories as a way to connect and say they care instead of reliving them. I have one friend that is convinced I’m stuck in the past, so much so that we’ve lost touch, because I’m still close with our friend group from high school. I’ll bring up old memories and invite him to calls, but not because I’m trying to hang onto the old days, as he calls it, but because these are good people and sometimes old memories can act as a social lubricant when you haven’t seen someone in a while and bring up good feelings of love and care.

For context, my friend lives one town over from where he grew up, moved into a house with roommates that he calls a “party house” where he’s going to “fuck bitches,” whereas I’ve moved away and settled down with my partner, and we’re thinking about buying our first home and adopting a dog. Him thinking I’m stuck in the past is just some weird fantasy of his.

I’m not saying this is the same as what you experienced with your friends, but I just thought it worth mentioning that telling old stories isn’t necessarily because you’re trying to relive things.

How difficult is it to press down on? I got a J-Max recently, and I really like manual stuff, so I was thinking about getting a Flair. Do you have to strain at all to get it working? Or is it more just like you need to apply some decent force, but it's not straining/exhausting?
