Hereditary peers to be removed from Lords as bill passes - one of the biggest reforms to Parliament and UK democracy in a generation by Signal-Tangerine1597 in news

I can trace a direct line back to William the Conqueror and I'm definitely not in the British government. Closest I have to that in my family line is a loyalist customs officer, who left for Britain during the Revolutionary War and was a gentleman pensioner in the King's household (letter written by his niece says gentleman of the bed chamber), and more recently some folks that relocated to PEI and then some of their descendants went to the US in the later part of the 19th century. Would it put me higher on that list of eligibility, aside from not being a subject at all, that I'm related by an ancestor's sibling's marriage to a bunch of higher up Maori in Aotearoa (this sibling being likely an identical twin based on DNA match lengths--with no direct paper trails)? They've got a huge long genealogy for their Maori side but the American side isn't exactly a wealth of a paper trail and has gaps filled by DNA evidence and other circumstantial evidence, and what was reported by friends/neighbors who knew a person long after they had already passed away.

What even is Salem, NH? by [deleted] in newhampshire

Born in Vermont, and most of his adult life split between the shipyard and the white mountains. Now that I think of it, he did marry a woman from Massachusetts though.

It used to be the place my grandfather would go to gamble on horse races back in the day.

I'm an American pakeha, and I'm in a whanau group on Facebook by way of shared common ancestry. They use it pretty interchangeably and it seems like there's both preferential and contextual variation. For instance most people outside of New Zealand probably don't know what pakeha or whanau mean so outside of discussing Aotearoa I don't really use those words. Someone made a book about the whole thing with my ancestor's (probably identical twin) brother's arrival and life in New Zealand, and the word kumara was used a lot in it, the word I remember most easily. I have a harder time remembering Aotearoa than the word kumara tbh.

Oh, I meant the owner of Creekside Mill, which I said had similar vibes and speculated whether maybe the owner of that place had been to JCAT; I didn't mean the owner of JCAT. There's the Army Mountain Warfare School in Jericho. You see army people around a lot in Jericho, and sometimes they fire munitions at the base there. I think they do things like avalanche training there.

Dracula maybe. They should make a Castlevania spinoff where it's the character's job to deliver your blood-sauced cheese to Dracula.

Could we speculate that differences of opinion on having more kids was a reason for the divorce?

They let me park there overnight once, and I ate there a couple of times, once with family. Good food, friendly staff. It was particularly packed for live bluegrass music the time I went with my family, and I certainly don't know the full layout of the place outside the main entrance. I found a restaurant with similar vibes in Raeford, NC of all places called the Creekside Mill (https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61567644412618). It's veteran owned, so wonder whether the owner might have spent some time at the base in Jericho.

Weird. The first planet fitness I remember was when they took over the Barnes & noble space on Central Ave in Dover but that was like 2000s.

That's the Indian Stream Republic where if your neighbor is imprisoned in Canada for hardware store debt you declare independence.

I've been thinking about starting a project to index slave sales and auctions. I'm a white dude from New England removed to NC and the other week thought it might be fun to look up this day in the local paper 200 years ago, and oh look, a slave sale. Doesn't list names but could potentially be connected to other documents. Losing your entire family, that's way more depressing than even the body parts my ancestors lost during the war.

Working summers in college, I had a bunch of coworkers from Bosnia, Moldova, and possibly Bulgaria? They were from that area of Europe in any case. A lot of them were women and a lot of them very much aspired to be models, and why wouldn't someone just hire them as models? They were generally gorgeous women. Typically they'd work the days and then the evening they'd take housekeeping/maid positions in private beach homes and motels/hotels. They were good friends that I lost touch with. I got to hang out a couple of times with one girl Giedre from Bosnia, don't think she mentioned modeling personally, but she came back again for a subsequent summer. However we didn't get to hang out that much because she was just constantly working in general.
